Sunday saw a Charity Game played at The ACG in Memory of Paul Child who recently Passed away.
Teams from Adwalton Cricket and Athletic Club and Drighlington Community Sports Club locked horns in a T20 game as others around raised money in Pauls memory for the fabulous charity Mind.
We were honoured to have Pauls Wife Janice and Son Rob attend the game and Join captains Jagdip Sian and Gareth Murrell at the coin toss.
The rugby team batted first with Tom Moorby and Shelly opening the batting till U15 Newby Sam Cundall-Houghton had Shelly C&B.
The start of the fifth over saw Neil Stephenson Dislocate his shoulder and retire on 2.
The over continued and Elliott Gardner picked up two wickets in two balls, Tom Moorby for 26 runs, Fielder with the Golden duck and £5 charity fine.
3 wickets in 5 balls saw Sam pick up his second wicket and Jag picked up a double wicket maiden with Murell and Taylor both Bowled. 35/6.
A charitable over from Fin Craven added 20 to the total as Z. Smith started to get loose. Chris & Alfie Ward both came and went without troubling the scorers, before Smiths luck ran out with him on 31, 70/9.
Moorby returned to the crease but was soon walking back to the pavilion thanks to Connor Patrick, though Stainburn took a shine to the Adwalton bowling attack as he peppered the boundary, before the eleventh and final wicket fell with the score on 124.
During the innings and Interval a fine BBQ served the many Spectators who had braved the windy conditions, thanks to all the volunteers who helped on the Bar & BBQ, Neil, Hinchy, Matty, Ada, Georgia an anyone else who helped.
Ever the modest Captain that he is, Jag decided to open the batting with Danny Lloyd. With the first 5 overs going for 47 Runs.
Danny opted to invoke the "out of the ground six and out/ £10 fine" rule to spend extra time at the bar.
One would be forgiven to think that Jag & Joh Hampshaw had prior engagements to attend, with Jag retiring Hampshaw falling 1 run short As Hallas picked up his first wicket.
Stainburn got his only wicket at the start of the 12th Over Sam departing for 15. 110/3.
Martin Moore making his Adwalton debut could only master 2 runs as it was left to Gibbo and Fin to chase down the total in the 16th over and a Victory for the Cricket side.
A fantastic day, with just under £400 raised for charity in Pauls name, were sure he would have loved to have been in attendance, not watching the game, but playing Dominoes with his pals and complaining about the draught through the patios doors as he did nearly every Sunday Afternoon.
He will be missed.
For those that are able to attend, Pauls Funeral will be held on Tuesday 16th June at St Pauls Church at 11am. Friends are then invited to Join the Family at Drighlington Community Sports Club
