WE WERE ROBBED. 😂🏆

Well…

There is no trophy in the bag this morning.

My best jeans were apparently all in vain.

But do you know what? We’re absolutely fine with that.

The Pour House was still one of just six finalists nationally for Best Local Business, we got our little bar in Devizes well and truly on the map, and we had a brilliant night celebrating alongside some genuinely fantastic businesses.

That’s a win in our book. ❤️

And, frankly, the REAL highlight was getting a big shout-out from James Horne during the Horne Section’s Taskmaster bit last night.

So we’re claiming that instead. 😂

This morning I’m waking up to a considerably less sunny Birmingham 🌧️ and heading off for another full day at the Entrepreneurs Convention.

Back home, The Pour House is CLOSED today, giving everyone a chance to recover before we get back to doing what we actually do best tomorrow.

Pouring great beer.

Talking nonsense.

And not requiring anyone to win an award first.

MONDAYS AREN’T USUALLY THIS BUSY… 👀

While I’m up in sunny Birmingham attempting to look respectable at the National Entrepreneur Awards, there’s plenty happening back at The Pour House tonight.

💬 Talk Club starts from 6pm
📚 Book Club starts from 7pm
🚪 Doors open at 5.30pm

Josh is at the helm, Lis is enjoying a couple of very well-deserved days off, and if there’s any room left amongst all that lot, you’re absolutely welcome to pop in for a cheeky Monday drink. 🍻

As for Birmingham…

Yes, I’m excited. Yes, bringing home the Best Local Business trophy would be rather lovely.

But we’re up against five other amazing businesses, all of whom have done something pretty special to make that final six, so tonight really could go any way.

Whatever happens, I’m incredibly happy that our little bar in Devizes got this far.

So Josh has the bar.

IS EVERYONE STILL ALIVE? 👀

Because that was quite a week.

We've run 17k (well, some of us did), possibly founded the Pour House Pedallers, relaunched Menopause Unfiltered, launched a book, survived Devizes Carnival, poured a LOT of beer and made a LOT of pizza.

So today...

SUNDAY RECOVERY CLUB. 🍻

No running.

No carnival.

No organised activities.

Just put some clothes on (please), get yourself to The Pour House, order something nice and congratulate yourself on completing the week.

We're open 2–8pm for gentle rehydration and the inevitable post-Carnival debrief.

Meanwhile, Sarah won't be joining you today because she's getting on a train to Birmingham.

Tomorrow night is the National Entrepreneur Awards, where our little bar in Devizes is one of just six businesses nationally shortlisted for Best Local Business. ❤️

Which still feels slightly bonkers.

Whatever happens tomorrow, we're ridiculously proud to have made the final six.

Although...

there is room in the suitcase for a trophy. 🏆

You never know.

DEVIZES KNOWS HOW TO DO CARNIVAL. 🎉

The weather last year?

Not so much. 🌧️😂

But we're choosing to believe that particular lesson has now been learned and the Rain Gods will behave themselves this afternoon.

Because it's DEVIZES CARNIVAL DAY, and we are READY.

What have we got?

📖 A new guide on how to enjoy it
🚽 Guilt-free toilets. Come in, use them. You do not have to buy something first. We're not monsters.
🍺 A frankly ridiculous range of beer.
🍷 Wine.
🍸 Spirits.
🥤 Soft drinks.
🍕 PIZZAS.
🥫 The Fridge of Loveliness fully stocked with cans you can take away.
🥛 Plastic glasses, so you can grab your drink and head outside to watch the carnival.
🪑 We might even manage some tables out front, so you can sit with a pint and watch the whole thing go past.
🎶 And there's a band right outside.

Seriously.

The Pour House opens at 12pm and carnival festivities kick off during the afternoon from outside our door.

Whether you're marching, dancing, watching, drinking, eating, bringing the kids, escaping the kids, meeting friends or simply wandering into town to see what all the noise is about...

Come and see us.

It's one of those brilliant days when Devizes comes out to play, the town is packed and everybody seems to know everybody.

We absolutely love it.

We'll open at 12.

We'll pour beer.

We'll cook pizzas.

We'll watch the carnival.

We'll probably lose all concept of time somewhere around 4pm.

And by 9pm we'll all be absolutely knackered.

Perfect.

SOMEBODY WROTE A BOOK. SO OBVIOUSLY WE'RE HAVING A DRINK ABOUT IT. 📚🍻

Tonight we're delighted to welcome our friend & local author Sarah Kate Cox to The Pour House for the launch of her beautiful new book, Katie's World.

It's a children's book about Katie, her little dog Coco and the world around them, but underneath it is a lovely reminder for all of us to slow down, notice things and find the extraordinary in the ordinary.

Sarah will be reading from the book herself and telling us a little about the story behind it.

THERE ARE GOING TO BE SOME HOT LADIES IN THE CELLAR TONIGHT. 🔥

Steady.

It’s not that sort of event.

Tonight we’re relaunching our menopause group, and this time we’re doing things a little differently.

Welcome to…

MENOPAUSE UNFILTERED.

And the name pretty much tells you everything you need to know.

No stuffiness.

No pretending everything’s wonderful when it isn’t.

But equally, no sitting around having a good old moan about how dreadful everything is for an hour.

The brilliant Helen will be running the group from 7pm.

Helen is a menopause expert, hypnotherapist and author who’s specialised in menopause for years.

But if the words “menopause expert” have just conjured up an image of a white coat, stethoscope and somebody earnestly pointing at a diagram…

Think again.

This is about real life.

The good bits.

The bad bits.

The downright bloody ridiculous bits.

The things nobody warned you about.

The things that actually help.

And the things you occasionally just need to laugh about with other women who completely get it.

There’ll be positivity, practical stuff you can actually use, a cheeky bit of relaxation and apparently Helen has a few other things up her sleeve too.

Whether menopause is currently kicking your backside, you’re sailing through it, you’re approaching it wondering what all the fuss is about, or you simply want to understand what’s happening to you…

Come along.

No booking. No pressure. Just turn up for 7pm.

And for everybody now thinking:

“I only came in for a pint. Am I about to accidentally join a menopause group?”

Don’t panic. 😂

The main bar is open as normal.

The hot ladies will be downstairs.

Although you’re probably best asking before you pop down to visit them.

Otherwise that could become an entirely different event.

And finally, a genuine thank you for all the lovely messages and support yesterday. It was a difficult day for us, but we gave our friend a wonderful send-off and got through it surrounded by some very good people.

Today we’re back home.

The doors are opening.

And life carries on.

SOME DAYS ARE A REMINDER TO MAKE THE MOST OF THE GOOD ONES. ❤️

And Monday was definitely a good one.

A huge congratulations to the Pour House Runners who decided that a perfectly sensible way to spend Bank Holiday Monday was to run 17k from Honey Street back to The Pour House, stopping along the way to support some brilliant local pubs and businesses.

Because apparently running 17 kilometres is much easier if you occasionally stop for refreshments. 🍻😂

And it wasn’t just the runners.

We had cyclists too.

Which does raise an important question…

Are the Pour House Pedallers now a thing? 🚲

Who knows.

But what an absolutely brilliant bunch of people.

They run together. They cycle together. They drink together. They laugh together. And, most importantly, they’ve become a proper group of friends.

Tonight they’re back for something considerably more civilised. A gentle 5k, meeting from 6pm, heading out around 6.30pm, followed by the customary rehydration afterwards.

New faces are always welcome.

But today is also a very different sort of day for us.

We’re heading to Pembrokeshire to say goodbye to a very dear friend who was taken far too young.

She came to The Pour House before she became ill and loved what we’d created. Sadly, she never got the chance to come back.

So today feels like one of those days when the things that really matter come sharply into focus.

The miles.

The good pints, the bad pints and the shots you knew you shouldn’t do.

The ridiculous conversations.

The friendships.

The hugs.

The ordinary days that don’t feel particularly important at the time, but somehow become the memories you treasure.

Don’t take them for granted.

Be nice to people.

Look after each other.

Tell your friends you love them.

And maybe hold the people who matter to you just a little bit tighter today.

Because none of us ever really knows how many of those ordinary moments we’re going to get.

Lis is at the helm today and The Pour House is open 4–9pm. The Runners will be doing their thing tonight and we’d love you to go and keep her company.

We’ll be back tomorrow.

RIGHT THEN, SEPTEMBER. WE’RE READY FOR YOU. 🍂🍻

And just like that…

The August and the Bank Holiday is over.

It’s 1st September.

The world is getting back to normal.

And apparently we’re all supposed to start behaving like responsible adults again.

We’ll see how that goes. 😉

First though, a massive THANK YOU for a brilliant Bank Holiday weekend. We had an absolute blast, and we hope those of you who sampled the pizzas enjoyed them as much as we enjoyed sending them out. 🍕❤️

Now, onto September…

And blimey, it’s looking busy.

We’ve got a cracking month of events coming up, so rather than bombard you with all of them today, we’ve popped the full September line-up below. 👇

As usual, most of it is simply rock up, grab a drink and get involved. New faces are always welcome, and you definitely don’t need to arrive knowing anyone. That’s rather the point.

There are just a couple of exceptions:

🧠 Quiz Night needs booking, either through our website or over the bar.

🍴 The Devizes Food & Drink Festival event is ticketed and needs to be booked directly through the festival’s own website, not through us.

Everything else?

Turn up. Join in. Enjoy yourself.

September is shaping up to be one of those months where there’s always something happening at our little bar.

And after the weekend we’ve just had…

we’re rather looking forward to it.

THIS IS IT. YOUR LAST FREE MONDAY UNTIL CHRISTMAS. 🎄

We’re sorry to be the ones to break it to you.

But after today, the next Bank Holiday is Christmas Day.

And things will look rather different then.

🎅 Christmas Day: Santa. Port. Cheese.

🍕 Today: Josh. Pizza. Sarah. Beer.

We’re not entirely sure there’s a parallel there.

Although Josh has been known to have a beard, Sarah could probably rustle one up 🤭and theres definitely port somewhere behind the bar.

So basically Christmas.

Anyway…

It’s BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY and we’re opening especially to help you squeeze every last drop out of your bonus day off.

The doors open at 2pm.

The beer will be pouring.

Josh will be firing up the pizza truck from about 3ish🔥🍕

Come for a pizza.

Come for a pint.

Come for both.

Come and sit in the garden if the Rain Gods have actually paid attention to our letter.

Or come inside, find yourself a seat and enjoy that glorious feeling of it being Monday and absolutely nobody expecting you to behave like it’s Monday.

Because tomorrow the alarm clocks come back.

The emails return.

And Tuesday will be wandering around pretending it’s Monday.

But that’s tomorrow’s problem.

Today, we’ve got one last Bank Holiday to enjoy.

Let’s make the most of it.
