So. Excuse the long post but, it needs to be heard.
I started work on the pool room a year ago pretty much to the day. It was hard. But we got there in the end. Everything ran pretty smoothly considering it’s my first business and not an easy one with how much prices and bills have gone up.
The past 3 weeks I have tried to change my table provider as the current ones were absolutely shocking, poor customer service and a general lack of willing to treat their customers with any sort or professional help.
This is where the problem starts. I, after paying £13000 in rent to the bloke that “owns” the building within the last 10 months, and thousands more for invoices that didn’t really add up, was told by him that I can’t change providers. I argued this but unfortunately having your own business means you cant make your own decisions.
So, after some thoughts I decided to stick with the company but give them 6 months notice. Which apparently they require in a legal contract that I never signed.
So, I’m then told that if I sign a 2 year agreement (legally binding) with the company, that the bloke that owns the building can get me a better deal and that’s what he thinks (for MY business) is right. I politely declined and said I’m happy to go with the other company in 6 months.
So the last week has been a pretty s**t atmosphere down there.
I’m then threatened that if any of my staff are seen to have a drink down there, that authorisation for me to sell alcohol will be removed, bearing in mind that this is not in any way, shape or form, against the law.
So I agree, tell him I’ll keep on top of it. And pay the rent that day.
Today, I have been told that a member of staff had a drink and my business is gone. End off. No real evidence. No chance to talk to staff and get their side. Nothing.
I now have £1000 worth of stock (and ordered a £204 keg of San Miguel last night).
£950 of equipment I brought to get UV pool nights going.
Paperwork and peoples personal cues up there. And there is nothing I can do about it.
Or so they think.
I have said no names in this post but I think we all know.
Apparently when you do well in business and someone else’s has been shut for a while, they don’t like it.
There is absolutely so much more to say but I will do that after contacting the relevant authorities as it could hinder investigations.
I’d like to say thankyou to everyone that supported me and the pool room over the last 10 months.
And a massive Thankyou to my staff.
I absolutely will be looking into this further but I won’t be making any effort to reopen in that building.
