A little update from The Dorallt Inn!
Firstly, I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has taken the time to send kind messages, offer words of support and show their concern over the last few weeks. It really does mean a lot, and I’m incredibly grateful for the support.
There has understandably been quite a bit of speculation about the sudden closure of the pub (again), particularly as, from the outside, everything appeared to be busy and going well. I wanted to take a moment to explain a little more about what has happened and hopefully clear up some of the questions.
As most of you know, I left the pub around 12 months before returning last November. During that time, I had no involvement whatsoever in the day-to-day running of the business.
It wasn’t until I returned and began speaking with the brewery and suppliers that I became fully aware of the extent of the outstanding debt that had been left behind by my former business partner.
At that point, I was faced with two choices.. walk away or try to do the right thing and see if I could turn things around. I chose to give it my best shot, because I genuinely wanted to save the pub and keep it going for everyone who supported us.
Unfortunately, despite managing to keep the doors open for the best part of 10 months, the combination of outstanding balances, extremely high rent, barrel prices and general running costs eventually became too much to sustain. We were effectively trying to keep up with ongoing costs while also carrying the burden of historic debts. Through no fault of my own, the business simply became financially unviable.
It’s incredibly disappointing, especially knowing that had those historic outstanding balances not been there, I genuinely believe the pub would still be open today.
But there is some good news!
The intention is still very much for the brewery to find a tenant and for The Dorallt Inn to reopen once the brewery have allowed me to surrender the lease and the necessary arrangements for this have been made. This will then allow them to let the pub. I don’t have a timescale or reopening date just yet, but I really hope it won’t be too long.
I also wanted to clear up a few questions surrounding the fixtures and fittings. These belong to myself and are not owned by the brewery. As some of you are aware, certain items have been sold and others are in the process of being purchased by the brewery. I just wanted to clarify this, as there seems to have been some confusion.
A separate matter I’d also like to address…
There have been a few comments across various posts over the weekend, particularly from an account using the name RACHEL TOMMS.
This is a fake account which was created almost a year ago by Paul Siviter and Alma Ryan, with the sole intention of targeting and harassing me.
The account has been reported to the police on numerous occasions and has been reported again this week following the latest comments. Unfortunately, I’ve not had much success in getting the matter resolved, with the police continuing to insist that it is a civil matter.
The profile picture being used actually belongs to Millie B, a rapper and influencer from Blackpool.. Google reverse image is a wonderful thing 😂. I’ve uploaded the original account so people can see where the photograph has come from.
Sadly, this isn’t an isolated incident. Since returning to the pub, there have been other incidents, including a break-in during which the CCTV hard drive was stolen, followed by damage to our vehicle tyres by the same people. I have also continued to experience ongoing harassment from Paul and Alma.
I genuinely hoped that after all this time things would have settled down and all had moved on, but unfortunately that hasn’t been the case.
I wouldn’t normally give this sort of thing any attention, but I do feel it’s important to address it, particularly when fake accounts are being used to make comments and cause upset. If you happen to come across the RACHEL TOMMS profile, I would be extremely grateful if you could report it as a fake account. Your support in helping to get it taken down would mean a lot.
Finally, I want to say again how much I appreciate everyone who has continued to support The Dorallt Inn. Whether you’ve visited us, booked a meal, attended an event, shared a post or simply sent a kind message, it has never gone unnoticed.
This has been a particularly difficult and disappointing chapter, but I have every hope that the brewery will appoint a new tenant and the doors will be back open soon.
As always, my inbox is open. If anyone has any questions or concerns about the pub or what’s happened, please feel free to message me. I’m more than happy to answer any questions.
