The Durham Ox is an award winning traditional pub complete with flag stone floors, exposed beams, oak panelling and roaring fires in the main bar during the winter. Family owned for the past twenty years and located in the most beautiful hill top village, 30 minutes from historic York. For those wishing for over-night accommodation there are five converted farm buildings that provide a peaceful and charming place to stay and The Studio Suite located above the pub with its own private entrance. All of the bedrooms open onto their own private terrace. There is also a self-catering cottage that sleeps up to six just a two minute walk from the pub. The Durham Ox is the ideal country get away, with easy access to York and up on to the Moors and Coast. Great covered outside space with wood-burning stove as well as other outside areas. Renowned for it's food, some of the classics include: Cheesy scallops, Lobster platters, The Ox Seafood Platter; Steak Frites, Sticky Toffee Pudding, Whole grilled turbot, Chateaubriand for two to share; and of course a great Sunday lunch with Yorkshire puddings and all the trimmings....and so much more. 32 Day Aged Wing Tip Sirloin & Roasted Flat Sirloin. Grass reared Beef Shorthorn – Mount Grace Farm, Thirsk - Hot Seared and Hot roasted to internal temp of 52 Degrees – served Medium Rare

Fillet Of Beef
Simply Salt & Pepper Seasoned. Chargrilled & hot oven roasted for 20 minutes - Served rare

Slow Cooked Brisket
Grass Fed Belted Galloway, Summerstone Estate, Lofthouse, Nidderdale. Charles Ashbridge, Taste Tradition. Slow cooked 8 hours in whole 7 kilo piece. Then glazed and finished in hot oven.

Slow Braised Short Rib On the Bone

Come and enjoy Bank Holiday Monday with us.
We’re open for drinks and food both in the Pub (from 12 noon) and the Doghouse (from 3.30pm).
In the pub we’re serving our A La Carte and Set Lunch/ Early Bird Menu for lunch and dinner. And don’t forget that you can enjoy glass of white, rosé or Champagne with one of our feasting platters when you’re in for lunch and the early bird.
Lunch 12-2.30pm
Early Bird - 5.30 - 6.45pm
A La Carte 5.30 - 9pm
If you’re hungry in between times then The Doghouse is serving great bar meals and snacks.

Bar opens from 3.30pm. Bar snacks and Bar Meals served from 3.30pm or join us for our Bank Holiday BBQ from 5pm. Meanwhile fear not, it will be business as usual in the pub with lunch from 12 noon until 3.45pm.
