Loveclough Social Club - aka: The Top Club / LWMC

The club was originally located on Burnley Road, Loveclough and occupied the former Bee Hive public house. The club has been registered with the friendly society as a private club since 1901 and also enjoyed a long association with the Club Institute Union. Many of our current members are direct descendants of the founder members. During 1978 Rossendale Borough Council elected to compulsory purcha

se the old club premises on Union Row so that the demolition of the whole row of houses could take place. Land was acquired by the club to the west of the Burnley Road premises, plans were submitted and the building of our current club commenced in 1979. In October 1980 we moved into our new building. As before the club continued to provide a wide range of activities and social events for its members and also for independent groups from the local area. It should be noted that Loveclough Working Men’s Social Club is a non-profit making organisation, all profits are ploughed back into the business or back to our members in one way or another. We measure our performance not just on our financial performance but on offering value for money to our members and also of how well we have served our local community. As already mentioned the club strive to make our facilities available, free of charge in many cases, to a wide variety of groups and individuals across the social spectrum. These range from local council and action group meetings such as the LVRA, sports society meetings and AGM’s such as the local fishing, golfing and football associations. In addition the function room is used for a wide range of activities such as fashion shows, arts and crafts sales, yoga classes, relaxation classes, circuit training, dieting classes, and Quiz nights as well as numerous charity fund raising events. In addition our car park and other external areas are often used by athletic clubs, car boot sales, the Holcombe Hunt and the Ramblers Association. We are regularly contacted by people interested in using the club for other various activities. We owe it to our members past, present and future to preserve Loveclough Working Men’s Social Club for the future enjoyment of all in our community and we remain fully committed to this end.
