On quite days like today I end up doing historical research. Today I've been researching my location at the restaurant and this is what I've found.

16 Spon St since 1860 was either a wine and liquor merchants or a pub known as The Board.

Of the many licencees of the pub there are two notable characters.
The first is Walter Tatlow his background was in the watchmaking industry and he was also a corporal in the Royal Warwick's reserve regiment. He was here from 1896 to 1903 during this period he set up the Harris Tatlow cycle company at 16 Spon St before moving to larger premises.

After his first wife passed away he remarried in 1909. In 1910 he left the company but continued to receive the sum of 2000 annually. What followed was an acrimonious divorce in 1910.

The Harris cycle company continued to produce cycles till 1940 when the factory was bombed during the blitz. Walter travelled to Australia on many occasions after leaving the company.

Walter died December 26th 1945.
