🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Welsh Word of the Week 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Happy Monday, everyone! With a new month officially here, it’s time for your weekly dose of Cymraeg.

Mehefin
* Pronunciation: Meh-hev-in
* Meaning: June

Did you know? The word Mehefin historically translates to "mid-summer." ☀️

Which brings us to today. It is officially the first day of June, the sun is... well, somewhere behind those grey clouds, and the classic Welsh rain is making a comeback just in time for the "summer" season! 🌧️😂

Don't let the drizzle damp your spirits, though. The fires might need to be lit, the drinks are definitely pouring, and we have the perfect cozy refuge from the mid-summer showers right here at The Groes Inn.

Pop in, practice your pronunciation, and dry off with a pint! 🍻

☀️ Grab your sunglasses—tomorrow is beer garden weather! 🍻

Before the clouds roll back in and the classic Welsh rain makes its return, we are getting one last day of sunshine tomorrow.

There’s no better place to soak up those rays than right here. Come grab a bench in our historic beer garden, pair it with a crisp pint or a chilled glass of wine, and let us handle the cooking while you catch some well-deserved vitamin D.

Don't let the good weather go to waste! Bring your friends, your family, or even your four-legged companion (we love dogs!). 🐾

✨ See you tomorrow before the rain does! ✨

🐾Paws up if you love a pub trip!🐾

We love welcoming your four-legged friends, and looking through our camera roll, it seems the feeling is completely mutual! From cozying up next to our roaring log fires to keeping a watchful eye on the Sunday roast, our pub just wouldn't be the same without our favourite furry regulars.

Check out some of our wonderful visitors, we think they deserve 11/10 for excellent pub behaviour! 🐶❤️

🎬 *Lights, Camera, Action in Conwy! 🎬

If you are staying with us this weekend or planning a day trip into historic Conwy, we wanted to share a quick but important local update.

Conwy Castle has currently been transformed into a closed movie set! Hollywood production crews (Katana Films) are in town shooting a major dark fantasy feature film—highly rumored by industry insiders to be an adaptation of the hit video game Elden Ring, directed by Alex Garland.

Because of this exciting production, there are a few temporary changes in town that might affect your itinerary over the next few days:

* Castle Closures: The castle is completely closed to the public today and tomorrow (Saturday, May 23rd and Sunday, May 24th) for filming and site reinstatement.

* When can I visit? Great news! The castle is scheduled to officially re-open to visitors this Monday, May 25th
Note that there may still be a crane visible near the East Barbican on May 26th and 27th as they wrap up production.

* *Parking & Traffic: Parking is temporarily unavailable or heavily reduced at the Vicarage Gardens and Morfa Bach car parks while technical vehicles are on site. If you are driving in, we highly recommend heading for alternative parking at Mount Pleasant (right outside the walls), Market Place (by the train station), or Bodlondeb.

* Keep an eye out: While you can’t get inside the castle walls just yet, you can still soak up the atmosphere, walk the historic town walls, and you might even spot a few extras or crew members wandering around the town center!

Conwy is still entirely open for business, so you can absolutely enjoy our local independent shops, the Quay, and Britain's Smallest House. And of course, once you’ve finished exploring the bustling, movie-set energy of the town, our amazing beer garden and a crisp pint will be waiting for you right here back at the Inn. 🍻

Safe travels, and happy star-spotting!
