The Golden Cross Inn

The Golden Cross Inn . . . so much more than a back street pub . . . S L E E P! E A T! D R I N K! The Arkell’s pub offers three traditionally-brewed real ales on tap at all times.
(305)

In the shadow of the parish church tower and just a short stroll from Cirencester’s historic market place, The Golden Cross Inn offers a warm welcome to all, from visitors seeking a satisfying pint of ale to discerning diners searching out contemporary British cuisine, and of course to those weary travellers looking for a clean and comfortable night’s rest. While the Inn itself dates from the mid-

17th Century, The Golden Cross of today has become well known as a welcoming hostelry offering high levels of service, great contemporary food, good company and comfortable, flexible and well-equipped bedrooms and suites, including a family apartment. Its central location makes The Golden Cross an ideal base for exploring Cirencester's historic back streets with their eclectic boutiques, galleries, coffee shops and more, while the award-winning Corinium Museum is situated just a stone's throw from our front door. The Golden Cross Inn is also renowned for its excellent pub food, with the dining room offering some of the best contemporary British cooking in the Cotswolds. Add a convivial bar with real ales, a wide-ranging wine list and a great selection of single malt whiskies, and we think you’ve found the perfect place to unwind and enjoy the magic of Cirencester and the Cotswolds. The Golden Cross Inn continues the centuries-old tradition of
English inns in offering a hearty meal and a good night’s sleep
for a reasonable price. All our rooms are contemporary in decor
and furnishing while retaining the traditional features of the original coaching inn. En-suite facilities are of a high standard and comprise shower, basin and w/c in all rooms, also a bath tub in the family suite, and all feature flat-screen LCD television, DVD player, tea
and coffee making facilities and local information packs. At the Golden Cross Inn we’re proud to offer some of the finest
pub dining in Cirencester and its environs, prepared by our dedicated and professional kitchen crew. Our breakfasts are second to none and are sure to set you up for the day, while the pub's lunch and dinner menus offer fine food in an informal dining environment. Larger parties can be catered for in our function room at the rear of the property, and in the summer the garden beckons as an ideal venue for an al fresco lunch, barbecue or early supper. In addition to its convivial bar and lounge The Golden Cross Inn
has a cellar to be proud of, for its real ales and its extensive
wine list. The wide-ranging wine list is mostly available by the glass, and the bar offers one of the widest selections of single malt whiskies in town. Add to this a beer garden that doubles as a sun trap and a great town-center location and you’ve found perhaps the finest watering place in the Cotswolds.

We are sure many have already heard the sad news.

The ;pub will remain closed for the time being but will reopen in due course with a tribute to the man who put it on the foodie map and provided so many great times for it, his family, his friends and regulars during his tenure.

He was an amazing man, son, brother, landlord, community minded individual, dog father to Frank and most of all, friends to so many. He will be missed.

A big thank you to Sam and Mike for running the GX in his absence.

Mark’s funeral will be held at Cirencester Parish Church on Thursday, November 3 at 2.30pm.

There will then be a wake at The Crown Inn on West Market Place.

All are welcome to both with family and friends looking to hear your memories of somebody that, in such a short time, meant so much to the town.

Raise a glass.

TRIBUTES have been paid to a well-known and much-loved Cirencester pub landlord.

Joining our headliner for Barking Toad Comedy at The Golden Cross Inn on 6th October are:-
Matt Roseblade, Gurpinder Singh, Chris Yates and Harry Rundle

***********************************************************
Cirencester-born, Tetbury-bred, Matt Roseblade has been doing stand-up for 7 years. He's taken 4 shows to the Brighton Fringe and won a few things here and there. He's in the finals of this year's Stand Up For Cider competition later in October and was a semi-finalist at the Not So New Comedian competition in London earlier this year.
Matt had to leave Gloucestershire 25 years ago and now lives in lovely Portsmouth, where he runs a couple of comedy clubs. Matt has been a shepherd, a factory worker, an international IT consultant and the assistant manager of Our Price in Cricklade Street in 1990.
***********************************************************
Gurps Cheema, grew up in a small town in northern Italy (even though he's Indian) His views are politically agnostic, yet he's a disgrace to his people and culture... but for very different reasons. Gurps has been doing stand-up since 2017 and likes observational jokes about generation z, culture, technology & other things that interest him and may or may not be topical! He tries to be relatable, and that's all we can say... he tries" "lazy relentlessness” is his motto.
***********************************************************
Hailing from Malvern via Birmingham and the Isle of Wight, failed musician and bedraggled millennial layabout Chris Yates combines a moth-eaten shambolic demeanour with off-beat takes on bizarre topics well outside his limited intellect. Reaching the final of the distinctly regional Stand Up For Cider competition during his first year in comedy, Chris has been delighting and bemusing audiences in equal measure.
***********************************************************
Harry Rundle is an up-and-coming character comedian with a particular fondness for one-liners.
When he’s not on stage you can find him pondering the anatomy of a pie. You don’t have to pretend you understand what he’s talking about, he’s not 100% sure himself.
