Buddies Day Service supports adults with a Learning Disability, Chromosomal Deletion Syndromes, Autism/Asperger's, Mental Health Diagnosis, Sensory Impairment, ABI. We are Mark and Debbie, a husband-and-wife team who, jointly, have six wonderful children, four of whom have a learning disability and/or autism. Over the years, we have experienced numerous difficulties in finding suitable care and pr

ovision for their individual needs. Over the past 20 years, as they moved from child services to adult services, this became even more challenging. This is an ongoing issue for many parents and carers here in South Gloucestershire, Bristol, and the surrounding area, where there is a real need for quality and appropriate provision of adult day care, which we and many other parents and carers agree, is not presently being delivered. For this reason, we set up BUDDIES, an adult day service for people with a learning disability, autism, mental health diagnosis, sensory impairment, acquired brain injury, predominately aged 18 to 65. This is not a rigid framework, and we can include someone over 65 and or transitioning from age 16. We are located on Station Road in Yate, right next to Yate Train Station and on one of the main bus routes from Bristol or Gloucestershire so very accessible. We provide a fun and entertaining place to spend the day with friends, where everyone who attends can feel safe, supported, and enjoy activities, tailored to their own specific needs. The activities include arts and crafts, bingo, puzzles, group games, board games, dance, karaoke, music, Makaton sing & sign, quizzes, cookery and baking, going out for walks within the local community, going out for coffee/tea/drinks, days out in the wider community. We will also encourage our users to tell us what they want to do, if it is appropriate and within our ability to provide it, then we will do so. our place, our space. This is simply because we want our guys to feel just that, their place, and their space. We are open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 9:30am to 4:00pm and we are now taking registrations for Monday and Wednesday for our service here in Yate. Senior Support Worker (Maternity Cover)

Location: Buddies Day Service
Salary: £16.50 per hour
Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday, 8:45am – 4:15pm
Contract: Maternity Cover (starting July/Aug 2026)
Holiday Entitlement: 21 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays (pro rata)

We are looking for a caring, enthusiastic and experienced Senior Support Worker to join our friendly team on a maternity cover contract starting in July/Aug.

At Buddies Day Service, we support adults with learning disabilities to live fulfilling lives, develop skills, enjoy meaningful activities and build friendships within a supportive and inclusive environment.

The Role
As a Senior Support Worker, you will:

- Support and motivate individuals to participate in a range of activities.
- Lead and supervise support staff during daily sessions.
- Ensure high standards of care, support and safeguarding are maintained.
- Plan activities and support individuals to achieve their personal goals.
- Liaise professionally with families, professionals and external agencies when required.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation.

What We're Looking For

- Previous experience supporting adults with learning disabilities.
- Experience in a senior or leadership role within health and social care.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- A positive, proactive and compassionate approach.
- A commitment to promoting independence, dignity and choice.

Driving licence is desirable

A lovely day at Buddies! 🌞

This morning we enjoyed a trip to the garden centre, where we had a look around, explored all the different plants, and spent some time watching the fish. 🐟 We then stopped at the café for a tasty snack and a chat. ☕🍰

Back at Buddies, everyone got creative with some expressive art, producing some fantastic pieces, before heading out to the courtyard for a fun game of boccia. 🎨🎯

A great mix of creativity, socialising, and friendly competition! 😊💙

🎉 Fab Friday full of fun and celebrations! 🎉

We started the day by wishing one of our Buddies a very happy birthday and making sure they felt extra special. 🎂🥳

Today's activities included walking Molly 🐕, a visit to LifeWithArt, diamond art, colouring, knitting, Wii games, card games, and enjoying some delicious homemade tropical slushies to keep cool. 🍹☀️
Our resident artist also made a start on a new drawing.
There was plenty of laughter, creativity, and friendship throughout the day. I think we all need a well-earned rest after all that excitement! 😊💙

Today's activities were full of fun and teamwork! 😊

This morning we headed out shopping to buy all the ingredients needed for our delicious pepperoni pasta lunch. Back at Buddies, we enjoyed a variety of table top games before getting busy in the kitchen preparing lunch.
This afternoon some of us went to Yate Leisure Centre for a game of badminton 🏸, while others stayed behind for a few competitive rounds of indoor skittles 🎳 and baking a cake ready for tomorrow's celebration 🎂

A great day spent with friends, laughter and plenty of activities for everyone to enjoy! 💙

We started the morning with a lovely walk on the common with Molly 🐕, enjoying the fresh air.
Back at Buddies, our creative side came out as we got busy making some fantastic turtles 🐢! There was plenty of cutting, sticking and decorating, and before long we had a whole turtle family taking shape 😄
