Dang it's been a hot week for doing this kind of work. Before and after pics of removal of recon stone and replacement with matching local stone as part of a full repoint of front elevation of an old cottage in my village.
TFI Friday. Cold beer to hand now 😁

Before and after of job I am currently working on. Replacement of two previously installed mullion windows of circa 2003. Wrong type of stone was used, Bath instead of Chilmark and the mouldings didnt match the other windows in the cottage. Also a wooden window was inserted instead of an opening leaded light type. A vast improvement in my opinion.

A couple of before and after photos of first phase of a current job. The transformation of a dank concreted space into an attractive courtyard. Slabs are reclaimed Indian Sandstone which perfectly complement the colours of the stonework of the house. The clients wish was for the paving to look like it had always been there ( or at least for a long time! ) I think I have successfully achieved that.
Phase two is a pathway continuing around the side and front of the house. Waiting for contractor to come to take up the existing concrete drive. The previous owners clearly liked concrete, lots of it !
Will post more pics in due course.

A job I just finished up yesterday. I added the walls and short piers to the already existing gate piers. Entirely a solo effort from setting out ( tricky because of the levels and hedges!! ) through hand digging for footings, mixing and placing concrete footings, laying of backing block wall, facing with stone, pointing of stone, rendering rear face and mortar capping.
Stone is Chilmark guillotined random rubble which was hand dressed for a coursed style. Pier caps are reclaimed concrete ones but are nicley weathered.
Took longer than it should have mainly due to the ever changing weather.
On to the next job! 😀

A little job I finished up today. A screening wall consisting of 6' concrete block faced with hand dressed Chilmark random guillotined walling stone. It's a rough, irregular product but with a bit of fettling it turns out ok. Flank walls and piers at the entrance to the house coming up next. Watch this space!

Thought I better post a couple of pics of the completed moongate that I created at the beginning of the year.

Finished up this interesting and unique project yesterday. Designed by the client, who is an artist. The metal bowl will fill with water and is intended to reflect moonlight. I like the contrasting but complimentary materials of stone, brick, terracotta and flints. It will look better still when the surrounding area is planted up.

Current project! I have cleared away and restarted this project for the client. It was started by someone who I think was out of their depth and skill set. They left it as per the bottom left photo. The stone circle wasn't level or circular ( more of an oval) The split flints infill also wasn't level. All not helped by the scalpings also not being level either!
Anyway, the stone circle is now circular, the outer ring of thin grey bricks is set and I have bgun to lay the cobble stones.
There will be a black metal bowl set in the centre surrounded by the flints. Slow fiddly work but an interesting diversion from the norm.

Progress update on my current project. Its gradually coming together.
