LA TRAPPE TRIPLE 8.0% - amber, fruity and malty caramel.

Perhaps less well-known than some of the Trappist breweries, the monastery at La Trappe was founded by French Trappist monks who found refuge in Berkel-Enschot in the province of Brabant, Netherlands in 1881. By 1884, the monks had stated brewing beer as a means to support themselves and to help them fulfil their charitable duties - still one of the core criteria to achieving “Trappist” status today!!

Back to Belgium for this featured ale!

ROCHEFORT 6 DUBBEL 7.5% - dark, complex brown ale with a fruity, spicy flavour.

Rochefort is an authentic, traditional, and well-known Belgian Trappist brewery from the abbey of Notre-Dame de Saint-Remy just outside Rochefort, southern Belgium. The monastery at Rochefort was founded in 1230 and the first written record of the monks brewing there date back to 1695. The number 6 comes from an old Belgian unit of measurement that expressed the density of the wort.

Next on our featured ‘Belgian’ beers is actually an English Trappist ale!

Did you know that not all Belgian beers are Trappist and Trappist beers don’t have to come from Belgium?

For a beer to be able to use the “Authentic Trappist Product” label, the brewing process must take place within the walls of an Abbey, with monks overseeing, and profits going to support the monastic community or charitable causes.

TYNT MEADOW BLOND 5.0% - light, bittersweet, and zesty!

Tynt Meadow is an English Trappist brewery from Mount St. Bernard Abbey in Charnwood Forest near Coalville, North Leicestershire. They joined the International Trappist Association in 2017 and released the first beer a year later in 2018 - a strong, dark ale at 7.4% (pictured in the background). More recently, Blond was released to augment the range with a paler ale.
