We are not currently serving food but have a great choice of ales, larger and spirits. The Sandy Park Inn near Chagford reopened in April with great success and cheers of appreciation! Old friends and new faces have flooded back in and there is a real buzz again about the old place. It’s a lovely old building and has a great atmosphere, but please note that we bought the place to save it (tragical

ly, it was closed, possibly to get change of use) so we are not doing rooms and there won’t be food just for the time being. We’ll update here when this changes, but in the mean-time, do pop in for a drink and sample the atmosphere of this great historic pub.

To our lovely punters!

It is with a heavy heart that we need to announce the end of our reign at the Sandy Park Inn.
Due to the complex circumstances it’s no longer possible to continue. We would appreciate not being bombarded with questions at this time.

We opened the doors in 2017 to save the pub from permanent closure. Roly from time to time would call it is unwanted baby, but really he, and we all knew he wanted it to be part of his legacy. He certainly achieved that. We are so very proud for what we have done for this little historic pub and the community.

We want to thank you for all your help, love and support over the years, and bearing with us through this difficult time.

The Sandy Park Inn will go on the market as soon as possible, but be rest assured we will do our best to make sure it ends up in good hands. As Roly used to say"it’s the best pub in the world!”

The pub will close on the 15th February, so please in the mean time come and say hello and goodbye. Also please come and drink the bar dry, there may be a bargain or two.

Lots of love,

Filia, Mim & all the dogs.

Our Story

The Sandy Park Inn near Chagford reopened in April 2017 with great success and cheers of appreciation! Old friends and new have flooded back in and there is a real buzz again about the old place. We serve three local real ales which we hope we keep in great condition. We also have an oft-commented upon ‘top shelf’ of which we are rightly proud. This maintains a large selection of single malt whiskies (mostly Scottish Speyside & Island, but also several Japanese) and we have about fifteen craft gins (and we know which fruit to serve them with); and, not least, we have a selection of quality wines.

We’re a rustic thatched historic old Inn and we serve a small menu of rustic food; a selection of quality pies & fries, served up with peas & gravy (surprisingly satisfying with a good glass of red wine). So expect some good old-fashioned pub grub made from quality ingredients, currently served Monday to Saturday (6.30-8.30pm). Vegetarian and gluten free options available.

The main bar is very dog friendly (dogs get a biscuit and they’re even allowed to bring their owners). In Winter, there is always a roaring fire. There is a bar ‘snug’ (seats 8) and a lovely wild beer garden above the Inn which, in sunny weather especially, provides tranquil views over the fields and woodlands and, ultimately, the remote rolling vista of Dartmoor.

In the immediate area, there are a myriad of beautiful walks which are right on our doorstep; miles and miles of paths criss-crossing the enchanting river Teign valley. The pretty stannary town of Chagford, with its little shops and restaurants, is a short walk west along the valley, and the National Trust’s Castle Drogo an equal walk in the other direction. Just ask at the bar for directions.
