England is the land of origin of the suit and has evolved over many centuries. In 17th century a three-piece suit, comprising of a frock coat, breeches and a silk waistcoat was worn by all wealthy and aristocratic gentlemen. Towards the end of the 18th century George “Beau” Brummell, close friend and equerry to The Prince Regent, began to create a style of attire which was more comfortable and fla

ttering to the figure. The evolution of which brought a change towards the modern lounge suit. The basic pattern has been developed through generations of bespoke tailors. And, by the late 1930’s the suit we are familiar with today has become the accepted uniform. The British initiative established itself as a forerunner, and although copied and varied globally, a British Bespoke suit still remains a prestigious wardrobe addition for aficionado’s worldwide. Bespoke Tailors Alliance (BTA) is set up to promote and preserve British bespoke tailoring craftsmanship & tradition. It is also to secure the unique British art of bespoke tailoring by ensuring the standardisation across the professional tailors to maintain the highest of standards for every client.

The Bespoke Tailors Alliance (BTA) is an esteemed organisation founded by a cadre of the United Kingdom's most skilled bespoke tailors, hailing from a region that has been a hub of tailoring excellence for over two centuries. BTA was established with the dual objectives of preserving the authentic craftsmanship and traditions of bespoke tailoring, as well as standardising practices among professional tailors to consistently deliver the highest level of quality to clients.

We recognise that the venerable art of bespoke tailoring faces significant challenges in the modern era. As many master tailors reach the age of retirement, there is an alarming dearth of young apprentices entering the field. This imbalance poses a real threat to the future of handcrafted tailoring.

The urgency to attract new talent into this age-old profession cannot be overstated; failure to do so would risk the extinction of a valuable art form. Therefore, one of BTA's primary missions is to invigorate the next generation of tailors, ensuring that the art and craft of bespoke tailoring are not merely preserved, but also thrive for generations to come.

The future-proofing of bespoke tailoring requires young people to be trained and enjoy the profession, so it is crucial that the current professional tailors do all they can to attract and train them. One of the key aims of the BTA is to encourage well-respected tailors to attract more young people to enter the trade enabling them to recognise the skill and hard work of a bespoke tailor in creating a handcrafted suit which is still very much in demand.
