Due to Popular Demand - Additional Show Added!

Ash Soan & Charlie Hunter, Live – Wednesday, November 11th.

We are delighted to announce that these two critically acclaimed musicians will be performing a second show in our intimate venue. This is a rare, unique opportunity to see them live, up close, and personal.

Ash Soan is a highly prolific British session drummer recognized for his rock-solid “pocket groove” and masterful studio touch. Though he started his career with a passion for jazz, he found massive mainstream success after joining the pop-rock band Del Amitri in 1994. This launched a legendary career as one of the music industry’s most in-demand players. Soan has recorded drums for dozens of global superstars—contributing to over 40 number-one albums for artists like Adele, Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, and Robbie Williams. Beyond studio albums, he spent seven years as the house drummer for BBC’s The Voice, performed at the 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony, and frequently collaborates with film composers like Hans Zimmer on blockbuster soundtracks including The Lion King and Mission: Impossible.

Charlie Hunter is an American jazz guitarist and composer famous for playing custom seven- and eight-string guitars that allow him to perform basslines, chords, and melodies simultaneously. He grew up in Berkeley, California, where he briefly studied under Joe Satriani before launching a career defined by an eclectic blend of jazz, funk, blues, and hip-hop. Hunter has released multiple acclaimed albums under the prestigious Blue Note Records, collaborated with stars like Norah Jones and Mos Def, and famously played guitar on D’Angelo’s classic track “Spanish Joint.” Today, he remains a highly respected figure in the music world, continuously touring and releasing music independently.

Music starts: 8:30pm
Tickets £12

Dave Betts is a British drummer, multi-percussionist and composer. His compositions span the worlds of Jazz, Latin and Funk with the emphasis on irresistible Afro-Cuban and Brazilian grooves, strong Melodie’s, and explosive solos. His unique on stage set up combines drum kit with Latin percussion and multiple pedals enabling him to play four percussion parts simultaneously. Expect infectious rhythms, punchy horn lines and soaring solos.

Dave has recorded four studio albums; Bounce, Straight Ahead, High-Rise and These Times and a live album recorded during his residency at Ronnie Scott’s.

REVIEW. Clive Cooper - Jazz Journal

“Dave Betts is UK based drummer who’s music displays his love for the post-bop, funk and Latin music of Chick Corea, Michael Brecker, Pat Metheny, Tito Puente and others. You might think a band with such a strong inspiration can’t go far wrong, and in this case you’d be right. Pleasingly varied and well-executed music that proves the perennial appeal of strong rhythm, melody and structure. This would fit the bill at many a summer festival.”

REVIEW. Selwyn Harris - Jazzwise

“The experienced, Tito Puente influenced percussionist/arranger Dave Betts specialises in infectiously funky Latin-jazz grooves and his horn led ensemble caters for those still getting their kicks on the floor. “

REVIEW. Tony Benjamin

“Sparkling, Latin-rich, modern jazz”

RAF FERRARI the JAZZ PIANIST WHO “THINKS” LIKE A CLASSICAL COMPOSER, whose musical universe is lyrical and inspired, elegant and sophisticated, made of contrasts and dualisms through an original mix of melody, rhythm and improvisation, after an intense artistic activity in Europe and the UK, presents his new album WAITING FOR EDO.

“Waiting for Edo” is the logbook of a journey dedicated from a father to his kid, figure and archetypal metaphor of the root. This is the concept projected by Ferrari, pianist of great prestige and renowned composer.

Seven stations in which experienced writing ability transfigures atmospheres and moods through dynamics of expressiveness, seven stations during which the gravest listening error would be to accent the plurality of musical references that develop from History with a capital letter in this very personal and familial history, now available to be shared.

The album Waiting for Edo consolidates the collaboration with the producer Odd Gjelsnes and LOSEN RECORDS, and probably represents the most unexpected and special release for the important Norwegian label to date. Mentioned by Flavio Caprera in the Dictionary of Italian Jazz as one of the most original musicians on the Italian music scene, Raf Ferrari has brought his music to important European stages collaborating with prominent names such as Gabriele Mirabassi, Javier Jirotto, Rodolfo Maltese, Fabrizio Bosso, Jenny Bae.
