By 2023, we were managing over 4,000 casks across 25 different bonded warehouses in Scotland.
£55 million worth of whisky. Scattered.
And here's the thing that kept me up at night:
Most of our clients couldn't visit their own casks.
Think about that. You've invested in something that will mature for 10, 15, maybe 20 years. Something tangible. Something ageing quietly in its oak cask, and you can't see it. Can't walk into the warehouse. Can't run your hand along the barrel.
The industry just... didn't work that way.
"Security concerns." "Insurance liability." "Not set up for visitors."
I understood the reasons. But I couldn't accept them.
If we're asking people to trust us with their investments for decades, shouldn't we be the most transparent operators in the industry?
So I sat down one evening—notebook, whisky, thinking—and wrote down three non-negotiables.
Three things that had to be true if we were going to build something better:
▶️ Access - Clients should be able to visit their casks. Anytime.
👍 Autonomy - Their whisky. Their decisions. Their 100% control.
😎 Transparency - Open books. Open doors. Nothing hidden.
These weren't marketing pillars. They were principles.
Now we just needed to find the right location, easy right......
