Following the shocking news of a fraudulent Go Fund Me page (which is being dealt with by the police - refunds are also being received quite quickly directly from the website) a new page has been set up directly going to the boys families via Robert Merrick, our Town Mayor.

The news of the fraudulent page caused further distress to families, friends and loved ones who are still struggling to grieve the loss of Corey, Matt, Jordan and Ryan.

If you could kindly donate, no matter how big or small, to this page (which all families are aware of and in agreement upon being set up) so the boys get a memorial - it would be so hugely appreciated.

As we line the town (in a socially distant manner) this morning, we are standing and preparing to say a goodbye to Corey Owen. We would like to remind you that if you are in the area Corey’s family have asked you come and watch the procession showing your support and love for a boy who is so truly missed. Our thoughts are with the Owen family this morning.

It is with a heavy heart we take the time to write to you all today.

We have reopened our page to share the tragic news that in the early hours of Sunday morning (16th August 2020) Corey Owen lost his life, along with three friends, in a horrific car accident at Derry Hill.

Corey worked with us for many months and all who met him, adored him.

The news has hit us all incredibly hard and we felt it appropriate to wait to post until now.

It is safe to say, we are all devastated and still reeling from the news.

Many of us have taken flowers, cards and even a cocktail shaker to the A4 where there is an area of tributes.

Our hearts are still heavy with the tragic loss of a boy so young (19) who had his whole life ahead of him.

Corey - it was a privilege and a pleasure to know you and work with you. You started as the shy boy, unsure you’d ever master the cocktails and positively frightened when customers flirted with you! We watched your confidence grow, your smile was infectious and you made the BEST mojitos. We are devastated at the news of your passing, and still in utter disbelief. Thank you for all you did for The Old Bankhouse. You had the kindest heart and you will be sorely, sorely missed - our thoughts are with your family, friends and loved ones at this unimaginably tough time.

To the other three young boys and their families - we didn’t know you personally, but again, we send our condolences to your loved ones. This is a tragic, tragic loss.

Our hearts are hurting, our eyes are sore from crying but yet, you still manage to make us smile as we talk about funny stories from the Bar or the pleasure of knowing you outside of work.

You will most certainly not be forgotten.

Fly high.

And that’s a wrap, folks!

We wanted to post a quick message to say another ‘Thank you!’ for all the lovely comments we received on our previous post when we announced that we were closing.

We have had the most amazing (almost) 5 years with THE most supportive and friendly customers.

What will happen with the building from now? We don’t know, but we do hope that whoever takes on this gorgeous place loves it just as much as we did..!

So, as we close the big double doors for the very last time, we wanted to say one final ‘THANK YOU’ to our loyal and fantastic customers, the wonderful Town Council and to our PHENOMENAL staff - we really couldn’t have done it without you.

It is with a heavy heart that we are taking this time to announce that The Old Bankhouse has now closed, permanently and will not reopen.

As the new year approaches, we have decided to focus on new projects and dedicate time to family.

The decision to close was not one that was taken lightly and in doing so we would like to say a huge ‘THANK YOU’ to a few people...

First and foremost, our customers who, without your support we wouldn’t have achieved half of the things we have in the past 4+ years. We think of many of our customers as friends and will be sad to not see you regularly (but please do say ‘hi’ if you see us around Calne!).

Secondly, our staff, both past and present. We have had some really incredible team members who helped us achieve amazing things which we couldn’t have done without your hard work and support.

Thirdly, Calne town itself. We have always said that Calne is a wonderful place, focused on community and we felt hugely supported by so many people, local tradesmen, the Council, other establishments and local businesses etc, even before we opened our doors in Sept 2015!

The past 4+ years have been phenomenal - we still can’t quite believe it’s been over four years but you know what they say, time flies when you’re having fun! In the effort to not miss out on any magical moments with our family, and knowing too well how quickly time passes (blink and another month has gone!) feel stepping back although it was a hard decision to make, is the right decision.

Although the Bar has been a labour of love, there are projects in sight for 2020 that perhaps would’ve meant we couldn’t have given our all to The Old Bankhouse. We have always been well known for the little touches - the personal quality behind the Bar.. What we don’t want to do is find that standards slip because our attention is elsewhere.

It was key to speak to staff members first, to express our gratitude (and sorrow) to them, before customers in relaying this news, and again, although it’s been such a difficult decision to make, feel we have made the best decision possible.

Thank you all, once again. Have a very Merry Christmas, and a fantastic 2020!
