****** MORE FANTASTIC NEWS FOR IXWORTH ******

We are absolutely delighted to share that the Trust has been awarded a whooping £7,500 from the Thriving Communities Fund to support the development of a brand new Community Café Area within Ixworth Village Hall!

This is more than just funding, it’s a huge vote of confidence in what we have planned.

What’s the Vision?

The café will be a warm, welcoming, affordable space at the heart of the hall, somewhere you can:
• Meet friends for coffee
• Bring the kids after activities
• Catch up after a walk or playing in the park.
• Work remotely for a few hours
• Pop in for a chat and feel connected

It won’t just be about coffee and cake (although there will definitely be good coffee and cake)

It’s about connection, inclusion, and community pride.

This is part of a much bigger plan.

This café area forms part of the longer-term redevelopment of the entire Village Hall site, creating a vibrant, sustainable community hub that serves all generations.

We’re steadily transforming the hall into:
• A place for health & wellbeing
• A space for youth activities
• A hub for local groups and clubs
• A venue for events and celebrations
• And now… a welcoming community café at its heart
• Tackling isolation

This is about securing the hall’s future and making it financially sustainable while keeping it community-run and community-led.

Why this matters.

Village halls across the country are struggling.

We’re choosing to invest, innovate and build something stronger.

This is about making Ixworth Village Hall a true community hub — not just a building, but a beating heart of the village!

A huge thank you to John Griffith’s and the Thriving Communities Fund for believing in our vision.

This is just the beginning, we have BIG PLANS.

If you want to get involved, in this and the wider project you just need time, or simply enthusiasm, we would love to hear from you.

Please message us directly or email:
[email protected]

Let’s build this together.

Ixworth Village Hall — not just a building, but the heart of our community.

PS, we have just 28 spaces left for the 100s club, places are going fast, so get your entry over to us ASAP.

Jiggens Memorial Village Hall & Playing Fields

Trustee Update – November Meeting Round-Up

Your Village Hall trustees met in November to review ongoing projects, community activities, and future plans. Here’s a snapshot of what’s been happening behind the scenes and what’s coming up for Ixworth.
VH Trustee Meeting Minutes Tue …

Events & Community activities
There’s lots in the pipeline to keep the Hall lively over the coming months:
• Quiz Night (Spring 2026) – A fun, local-knowledge themed quiz evening is being organised. Expect teams, friendly rivalry, and refreshments available on the night. Date to be confirmed.

• Race Night – Plans are progressing for another popular horse racing–style social evening in partnership with Ixworth Bowls Club. These events are always great fun and well supported.

• Weddings at the Village Hall – Trustees are exploring how the Hall can be used more as a wedding reception venue, working with local caterers and suppliers. This could make the Hall an even more valuable community asset while supporting local businesses.

• 100 Club Lottery – Work continues on the relaunch of the Village Hall 100 Club, helping raise regular support for the Hall while giving residents the chance to win monthly prizes.

Youth Club – Thriving and Growing
The Ixworth Youth Club continues to go from strength to strength.
VH Trustee Meeting Minutes Tue …

• Weekly attendance is strong, with new young people joining regularly.
• A recent Bonfire Night gathering was very well attended and enjoyed by all.
• A Christmas party is now being planned.
• Young people from seven local villages now attend, showing how valued the club has become across the wider area.
• The Youth Club will also play an active role in the Ixworth Village Fayre, running stalls and getting involved in the community.
• Parents are now linked through a WhatsApp group, providing great support for the club’s activities.

Hall Maintenance & Improvements

Trustees continue to look after the building and facilities to keep them safe and welcoming:

• The Hall’s security systems are being serviced.
• Work is in hand to address a damaged entrance wall.
• Plans are being made for a deep clean of the kitchen, cupboards and crockery.
• An upgrade to the Main Hall lighting is being treated as a priority, subject to funding.
• Work is ongoing regarding car park improvements and marking.

Looking to the Future – A Bigger Vision

A major topic of discussion was the long-term future of the Village Hall.

VH Trustee Meeting Minutes Tue …

For many years, it has been recognised that the Hall is too small for the growing needs of the community. Trustees are now actively reviewing options for a significant redevelopment or potentially a new site that could provide:

• Much more internal space
• Better facilities for sport and community use
• A modern, flexible building fit for future generations

This is a long-term project (around five years) and will involve consultation with residents, user groups, and local organisations. The aim is to create something the whole community can be proud of.

Working With Others

Trustees continue to work closely with:
• Local community groups and regular Hall users
• The Events Committee
• The Parish Council
• Other local organisations and volunteers

Community involvement will be vital as plans develop.

🎄 December
The December trustee gathering will be a festive meeting, with regular business resuming in January, when discussions on the future Village Hall plans will continue.
VH Trustee Meeting Minutes Tue …

If you’d like to get involved, have ideas, or want to support the Hall, keep an eye on Village Hall notices and community pages — we’d love to hear from you.

Jigging trust update - big news, so big, you had better sit down to read.

InPost Parcel Lockers Installed!
No more missed deliveries or waiting around. You can now collect or send parcels 24/7 right here in the village! Even better – the lockers come with brand-new lighting and CCTV, making it safe and easy to use, day or night.

Ixworth Library Saved!!
The Trust has successfully secured the library lease for the next 3 years, meaning Ixworth will remain one of the few villages in Suffolk to have its very own library. A huge thank-you goes to the Trust team for their hard work in negotiations – especially Mike Dean, Stephen Mann, and the great team at West Suffolk Libraries.

Ixworth Bar gets a touch of nostalgia!!!
We’ve also installed a beautiful series of historic photos in the bar area, showing life in Ixworth back when things were simpler (and the only thing you “posted” was a letter, not an argument with strangers)

This is all about making Ixworth safer, smarter, and more connected while also keeping its unique history alive.

**Competition time **
Like and share this page & post and we’ll direct you to a FREE library card!!!!!
Yes, absolutally free, a wealth of knowlage and stories all for nothing (as long as you bring the books back on time) – because books are still the best kind of download. 😉

Good afternoon, folks. Incoming rant.

Dogs on the playing field – again.

In the last two weeks, we’ve had two complaints about dogs off leads attacking or knocking people over. The week before that? One dog attacked another dog.

And let’s not even start on the disgusting amount of dog mess being left behind. It’s grim.

Now, I know this doesn’t apply to 99% of the responsible, decent dog owners in the village (myself included) and thank you for being considerate, and I hate that this might offend some of you – but the reality is, a few lazy, selfish individuals are ruining it for everyone else.

Let’s be clear: the trust allows dogs on the field.

We don’t have to.

We do it because we understand people (again, like me) want to give their dogs a proper runaround.

We even host dog training sessions and an annual dog show – so it’s not like we’re anti-dog. But after recent incidents, and the complete lack of basic respect being shown to other field users, we’ll be meeting next week to seriously consider either banning dogs entirely or enforcing a strict no off-lead policy.

And yes – if it comes to it, we will literally pay someone to sit in the hedge all day, take notes, film the offenders, and start issuing fines to those who can’t follow the rules.

Because apparently, that’s what it’s going to take.

Because – and this really shouldn’t need saying – people have a right to use the playing field without worrying about being attacked or stepping in dog crap.

So, for what feels like the hundredth time: show some respect. Pick up after your dog. Keep them under control. Or we’ll be forced to bring in some heavy-handed, draconian rules that spoil it for the rest of us.

Cheers.

Good afternoon, ladies and gents – how are we all doing on this fine day?

We at the Jiggin Trust want to say a big thank you to the Parish Council for their support in helping us shape an application with consultants, aiming to claw some money back from the looming developments and into the hands of the community – where it bloody well belongs.

Together, we’re hoping to create a lasting, useful, and genuinely awesome village hall and playing area. But here’s the deal...

None of this matters – not one bit – if you lot don’t speak up.

When I popped into the presentation earlier this week, it was the same old faces (you know who you are – thank you). But let’s be real: it’s not fair that the same five people always show up, ask questions, and carry the load.

This is your community, your space, and your decision.

To make it dead easy (because we know dragging yourself off the sofa can feel like a mission), we’ve put together a simple, multiple-choice questionnaire.

No essays, no stress – just click the boxes that match how you feel about the hall and what happens next.

Even if you genuinely don’t give a toss – tell us! That way, we’ll know to flog the place and build a fancy private spa for the trustees and parish councillors. Sound good? No?

Then bloody well fill in the form, parents ask your chilldren what they want, they will be here longer than you and as such, their opinions counts for more.

Make the effort. Have your say -

*** Very Important Community opportunity ***

HAVE YOUR SAY ON THE FUTURE OF OUR VILLAGE HALL

With a planning application submitted for The Langridge and Persimmon expected to follow, Ixworth faces important decisions about its infrastructure—especially our Community Recreation Facilities. While the Jiggens Memorial Trust is making short-term improvements to the Village Hall, a long-term solution is needed.

The scale of proposed developments offers a once-in-a-generation opportunity to secure funding through Planning Legislation (Section 106/CIL) to invest back into our community.
In collaboration with the Parish Council, the Jiggens Trust has commissioned Place Services to gather residents' and users’ views to support future funding bids. Your input is vital to ensure these facilities meet our growing needs.

We invite you to a Drop-In Engagement Event at Ixworth Village Hall on Wednesday 2nd April, 4pm–7pm, to share your ideas.
Let’s make the most of this unique opportunity to shape our village’s future.

Ben Lord – Parish Council Chair
Ben Birrell – Chair, Jiggens Memorial Trust

Exciting News for Our Community!!

Football is Coming Home!

We’re thrilled to announce that from March 20th, work will begin on restoring the football pitch at the playing field!

This project aims to bring the pitch back up to FA-approved standards, paving the way for Ixworth Football Club to return home!

The team, are already playing and training, and are a magnificent sight, premier league standard!

This is fantastic news for our village, opening up new opportunities for the community to rally behind our local team. It’s the perfect excuse to get outdoors, rain or shine, and come together to cheer on our players!

What This Means for Our Community:

✅ A fun, safe, and family-friendly space for people to play, train, and support each other.

✅ Financial support for the village hall, helping fund future improvements and redevelopment of the playing field.

✅ The chance to build a stronger local football scene, with potential teams for men, women, juniors, and regular leagues!

How We’re Making It Happen

So far, we’ve received generous support from:

• Several local businesses in the village

• A donation from West Suffolk Council (thank you, John Griffiths!)

• We’re hopeful for further backing from the Ixworth Association and the Parish Council – stay tuned for updates! (We will keep you updated, but we're confident they will provide support)

How You Can Get Involved

The team and pitch still have a long way to go. Right now, we’re working with the bare essentials, but with your help, we can take things to the next level!

If you’d like to contribute in any way—whether it’s time, skills, donations, or sponsorship—please reach out via messanger or comment on this post, and we’ll be in touch.

We’re also incredibly grateful to those who have already stepped up to volunteer.

Thanks to your support, we’re hoping to offer a range of teams for all ages and abilities. If you’re interested in getting involved, let us know—we’d love to chat!

To everyone who has already reached out—thank you! We’ll be in touch soon to finalize plans.

This is a huge moment for our community, driven by a small but passionate team.
But we can’t do it alone!

Let’s come together, support our local team, and make this a success for everyone!

PS: Keep Off the Pitch!

While the pitch is getting its much-needed glow-up, please stay off the fenced-off areas—no excuses!

The playing field will still be open, so feel free to enjoy it, but kindly keep dogs, kids, teenagers, drunk uncles, rogue peacocks, and any form of sports away from the work zone.

Anyone who breaches the grass growing zone will be placed in the village stocks.

So let’s give the grass a chance to grow so we can all enjoy it properly soon—cheers!
