Eclectic decor and the best loo in Thanet!Ciders,wines/spirits & fresh coffee. Dogs welcome. Newly opened in September 2021 but fast becoming a destination pub for locals and visitors alike. An owner managed, family run & community focussed coffee and alehouse with a twist. Classy decor with a mixed theme of victorian, steampunk and Art Deco. Serving well kept, locally and nationally sourced cask ales & real ciders from a state of the art, showpiece chiller cabinet in the middle of the room. A wide range of wines and spirits and amazing espresso using a unique house blend of speciality coffee beans, freshly roasted in Kent.

Congrats jamesgoyder on Insta for correctly identifying this week’s mystery cask. A couple of other close ones but no cigar I’m afraid 😦

The answer is ‘Beyond Shameless’. A 6.2% colab brew combining two West Coast IPAs, Redwillow brewery’s ‘Shameless’ and Northern Monk’s ‘Beyond’.

The clues:
A RED WILLOW tree.
A MONK sitting at on the NORTHERN pointer on a compass.
Frank from Shameless, BEYOND in the distance. Easy eh? 😂

This really is stunning! 🤩

Expect chewy malt, resinous hops and a finish that will take you into next week. The lacing on the glass leaves a perfect ring after every sip!

If you love a westie, we also tapped Dorking Brewery’s Buffalo Buffalo last night 👍🏻

Every cask is fresh on today. James had a busy night last night!

IT'S FIRKIN FRIDAY!! 🍺

Besides the rather raucous Quiz Night on Wednesday, it's been super quiet in the pub this week. A stark contrast to last week! 🫤

Where did everyone go?! 🤷🏼‍♂️🤣

I guess everyone's saving their pennies with the festive season fast approaching. The weather's been pretty bloody depressing too, so I can't blame anyone for wanting to stay home with their feet up in front of the telly. 📺

Anyway... we're still here! 😂 And we've got another mystery cask for you today. 🙏🍺

I've been particularly excited about this one. It's a collaboration between two brilliant independent breweries, both staunchly dedicated to brewing great cask b**r.

And the best bit... I'm opening today, so I get to try it first! 😋🍺

Then tonight I'm taking Melissa to the Granville Theatre to see Gary Delaney fire approximately 4,000 one-liners at us. Can't wait! 😂

Anyhow... back to the important stuff.

Congratulations to…surprise surprise 😜…Daryl Hubbard on FB for correctly identifying this week’s mystery cask. Some great guesses this week too. No entries on Insta this week.

The answer is Pentrich Brewing Co. - ‘Duck Filled Pond’.
The clues:
Obviously a duck filled pond 🦆
Then there’s the cast from the 80’s sitcom Filthy, Rich and Catflap. Rich has an arrow pointing to him and if you look closely he’s holding a cup of tea with a pen in it…

I told you it was easy! 😂

As you would expect from this amazing brewery, it’s delicious and like many of their b**rs, hazier than Jack the Ripper’s London ☁️

Bags of flavour from Simcoe and Mosaic hops, of which I’m sure they’ve used HEAPS of ‘em because it’s only 3.8%, so you’d be excused for thinking it’s over 5%

There's a distinct autumnal feel in the air 🍁 The evenings are drawing in 🌙 and October sees us lose over TWO HOURS of daylight, with the clocks going back in a couple of weeks.

Goodbye summer, old friend... it was nice seeing you. 🌞👋

Anyway, let's not get too depressed about it...

🌿🍺 GREEN HOP SEASON IS UPON US!! 🍺🌿

One of our favourite times of the b**r calendar has arrived… Kent Green Hop Season! 💚

Every September and October, Kent’s brewers make the most of the hop harvest by brewing with freshly picked, undried hops, rushed from field to brewery and into the kettle within hours of being harvested.

Unlike dried or pelleted hops, green hops retain all those wonderfully fleeting oils and aromas that disappear during drying, giving the b**rs a distinctive fresh, vibrant character that can be grassy, resinous, citrusy, fruity and sometimes even a little green-tea-like.

We’re kicking things off with three cracking b**rs from three stalwarts of the Kentish brewing scene.

🌿 GOACHERS – GREEN HOP EG40
We were excited to tap this one late yesterday afternoon!
An extremely limited brew, made using EG40, an experimental hop developed by Wye Hops at China Farm near Canterbury.
Expect flavours and aromas of lychee, sweet citrus and mango. 🥭🍊

🌿 GADDS’ GREEN HOP ALE
Our friends at GADDS’ Brewery are holding their annual Green Hop Festival this Saturday, 10th October, with the ceremonial tapping of their own b**r alongside fresh-hop brews from several other breweries.
Naturally, we’ve snaffled a cask for ourselves 👍

🌿 KENT BREWERY – GREEN GIANT 6%
Kent Brewery always deliver the goods when Green Hop Season rolls around, and Green Giant is a firm Royston favourite.
A whopping 6% IPA, brewed with a colossal amount of freshly harvested East Kent Goldings. This one is already settling nicely on the stillage. 👀🍺
Production has been a little more limited at Kent Brewery this year, but we’ve also managed to reserve a cask of their Green Manalishi, brewed in memory of the great Peter Green of the original Fleetwood Mac. 🎸💚

So that's FOUR Kentish Green Hop b**rs being poured over the coming weeks. 🌿🍺

After four months of horrendous shirts, questionable fashion choices and far too many bloody Kevs... the votes are finally in! 😂

Their brilliantly awful home-made matching LEGO shirts have won the Grand Final vote and they are officially...

And I have to say, I'm absolutely delighted for them. ❤️
Sarah put a huge amount of time and effort into actually making these beauties herself from a duvet cover she bought off Vinted

They originally won July's S**t Shirt Sunday together, earning their place in the Grand Final, where they faced some seriously stiff competition from Kev B, Kev B... and Kev S. 🤦‍♂️🤣
Seriously, what is it with Kevs and s**t shirts?!

But after the final round of voting, you lot decided that handmade hideousness deserved the crown! 👏💩
So Kev & Sarah now have the enormous honour of taking possession of the magnificent...

A priceless* piece of Royston history which I'm sure will take pride of place in their home.
