Congratulations to Matt Webb on winning last Tuesday nights sub 70 average round robin (apologies for the delay Matthew!)
Webb made a positive start to his title bid, winning 4 of his 5 matches to finish 2nd behind Joe Sellick in group 4 - and setup a last 16 clash with Sam Dyte. Webb made the better start, and Dyte did have the opportunity to level up early doors - but Webb stepped in to close the game out with a 114 checkout in a 3-0 win. In the last 8, Webb found himself 2-0 down to Liam Moore (averaging just shy of 100 at the time) but somehow got himself back in the match to get level, before taking the decider to confirm his spot in the semi finals against Glenn Pearce with a 3-2 win. This one also needed a deciding leg - but again it was Webb who held his nerve to book his spot in the final with another 3-2 win.
Joining Webb in the final was Dan Cornes - who defeated Josh Latham, Neil Broad and Joe Sellick along the way.
Both players made a reasonably good start, which saw Cornes take the opener. Webb quickly levelled up in 19, before Cornes restored his advantage at 2-1. Again, the perfect response from Webb - as he took leg 4 to deservedly force a 5th and deciding leg. There wasn’t much in it coming down, but 2 missed darts at double 18 for Cornes proved costly - as Webb kept his cool to find double 19 last dart in hand, and pick up his most recent title at the bar 👏 🏆
