The Princes Motto - Barrow Gurney

The Princes Motto - Barrow Gurney The pub is currently closed and up for sale - but together, we can save the Prince's Motto as a community-owned asset at the heart of our village.

We need your support to make this work! We're proposing to set up a community benefit society that will establish the Prince's Motto as a thriving business:

* A cafe AND a pub, serving great food
* Accessible, family-friendly venue for community meetings/work-from-homers
* Venue for cyclists & walkers - and even beer drinkers! If the pub is to survive, we need to do a lot of work - please come to

our meetings to discuss what needs to happen to ensure that the Motto remains the asset that it has been to the village for over a century!

⚠️🚨 BIG NEWS 🚨⚠️

We will soon be archiving this page - the Motto has been freed and will be opening her doors to you all once more!

Thank you to Catherine and her team for all their hard work and effort in bringing our beloved pub back to a respectable state - it's a big job but she will love you dearly in return!

Please head over to Yew Tree Farm at The Motto Barrow Gurney and click the usual buttons to stay up to date with progress at the pub, and what will become our very own village farm shop, too! We won't be active on this page ever again - we hope!

Thank you all for your ongoing support and your offers of assistance, your investments of money and time when we thought the pub may be lost forever, and for your continued positivity through some of the darkest times seen in living memory for both the hospitality trade and the pub industry!

Please give Catherine and her people your UTMOST support when they open - village pubs aren't just drinking holes and restaurants, they're community centres, meeting places, and for many, the only chance of socialisation on offer in this ever-evolving world. They are the beating hearts of communities like ours, and we couldn't be more grateful to have another chance at retaining that important aspect of Barrow Gurney life.

Over, and out 💪❤️💪

Our Story

Hi everyone,

We’d like to formally introduce ourselves to the village as the new landlords at the Princes Motto.

Andy Miller and Geoff Warren are business partners who’ve lived in the area for many years. Geoff is a 40 year member of Barrow Gurney CC and Andy has worked in the pub trade for longer than he cares to remember (and therefore should know better 😉) so we know the pub and the village quite well.

Our aim is to re-introduce a more community feel to the pub with the emphasis on it being more of a village hub where people can enjoy a cheap pint (our range is below) and a chat. We will be introducing food from next Sunday (Mothering Sunday) so if you would like to come along and say hi and sample our cooking it would help tremendously if you could book a table.
