The news that Walkabout Bristol is closing is another sad reminder that we’re losing more than just bars—we’re losing places where memories are made.

Most of us have probably been there at some point. Many of us met our partners in a bar, made friends for life, widened our social circles or enjoyed nights we still talk about years later.

For some people, their local is even more important. It’s somewhere to go after losing a loved one, somewhere to find company and conversation, to laugh, have a good moan about the world—or perhaps even find a new partner and begin a new chapter.

Bars are not simply places to have a drink. They bring people together.

If they all disappear, what will we have left—a conversation with a chatbot?

Please support your local pubs and bars whenever you can. We may not realise just how important they are until they’re gone. ❤️
