It is with great sadness that we are announcing the passing of one of the members of the Rose and Crown family. Susie Lawrence.
Susie has been with us since before the pub even existed in its current form, she scraped old wallpaper off the walls, she scrubbed ni****ne stains from the ceilings and her brush touched every part of the paintwork in the building; each stroke breathing new life into this uncared for venue. Those of you who are regular customers would have remembered Susie bringing you your Roast Dinners on a Sunday, or pouring you a Friday afternoon drink, (when you'd managed to get off work early!) before she took ill.
Those of you on this page who have worked with us will also remember her stalwart prescence, taking on any job (except the till!) that she could find around the place. She was even around on the fateful morning the ceiling collapsed in the pub after a particularly raucous stag do cheked in upstairs and despite her dash with death under several tonnes of old plaster. She still turned up to work the next day, as always, laden with sweets and biscuits for all the other staff to tide them through their shifts.
Susie was a real tour de force of a lady, she was full of opinions, full of love and full of care, and she'd do anything you asked of her, whether it was helping you decorate your new house, or a day weeding some one elses garden.
So, it is only right that we do one final thing for her.
On Tuesday 3rd of November from 1pm, all who knew Susie are welcomed and encouraged to come and join us at the Rose, where we'll have a few drinks, share a few stories and remember a life well lived.
