Yet hospitality continues to face unprecedented cost pressures while operating under one of the highest VAT rates in Europeโฆ at our 20% rate; ยฃ1 from every ยฃ6 spent in your local pub, cafรฉ, restaurant or hotel goes straight to HMRC in VAT alone. By comparison, many European countries support their hospitality sectors with lower rates, including France, Spain and Italy at 10%, and Germany at 7%.
That's why we're supporting Tom Kerridge, UKHospitality and the industry's call for a reduction in hospitality VAT from 20% to 10%.
