EDIT - this is a hypothetical post made to highlight the issues- the club is not actually closed -
“Imagine waking up to read this message from myself!
# # DUE TO RESIGNATIONS OF OUR BAR STAFF IN RESPONSE TO THE BEHAVIOUR SHOWN AGAINST THEM BY MEMBERS OF OUR POOL TEAMS THE CLUB HAS TAKEN THE DECISION TO CLOSE UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE # #”
This is the situation that the Club may find itself in imminently unless the behaviour of some members changes and changes quickly.
Over the last few weeks, there has been a number of incidents where at least three separate bar staff have had derogatory comments made to them by individuals or have felt intimidated from members of our home Pool teams which has resulted in concerns being raised formally by them. These concerns include insulting comments about their personal appearances, inappropriate comments about their appearances and intimidating behaviour when the staff are trying to do their jobs to the best of their ability. Most disappointingly these comments are being made by Club members not just Pool players.
It is 2026 not the 1970’s and social standards have changed for the good. Our staff deserve to be treated with respect and feel safe in work and the Club will not turn a blind day to any concerns raised. We have a fantastic team of bar staff and support staff without whom the Club will fail to function. Some comments may seem harmless and are not intended to offend but that is not the case. Some comments are outright insulting and deliberately offensive. Members may not intend to act intimidating, but on occasions our staff do feel intimidated. Some do deliberately act intimidatingly.
I will be in touch with the captains of the teams involved informally over the next week to highlight the behaviour of those involved, and then if necessary the committee will take further action.
I urge all members to be mindful of their behaviour, comments and the respect they showed to our boss staff at all times.
Andrew,
Chairman.
