Morning all,
Paul here — one of the brew team up at Wight Knuckle. I wanted to share a small improvement we’ve been working on up at the brewery.
As part of our ongoing effort to be as sustainable as possible, we’ve been trialling a new way of cleaning our kit. For decades, the go-to chemical has been caustic soda. While it’s incredibly effective, it’s also pretty nasty — both for the user and the environment. Until recently, there hasn’t really been a viable alternative.
Over the last few months, we’ve been testing an enzyme-based industrial cleaner called Enzibrew. It’s not only much safer for the environment, but also safer for the team using it — and it requires significantly less water when rinsing out vessels.
Naturally, we were sceptical at first. But after months of trials and putting it through its paces, we’re confident it does the job just as well. So we’re now switching over to Enzibrew for all cleaning duties where caustic was previously used.
It might not be the most exciting update — but it’s another small step towards a more sustainable brewing system, and that matters to us.
