A true Zwanze beer, far from the fruity, winey and floral tastes expected of Cantillon lambic. This year's Zwanze started life over a year ago when Jean - Pierre and Co headed to Brittany to work with Sylvain, an abalone mollusc farmer in Finistére. It's here they submerged a selection of Gueuze bottles to a depth of 10 metres to ferment alongside his molluscs. It's here the Cantillon team took the idea to use the algae and plant life Sylvain feeds to his abalone in maceration with lambic - specifically sea lettuce. This year's Zwanze, therefore, exudes tropical aromas and exotic fruits but with notes of iodine and a slight salty taste, reminiscent of fresh oysters and sea breeze. A whole new chapter and experience from Cantillon, not unexpected but intriguing and exciting. Brasserie Cantillon..
So what's happening here then?
Well, it's a huge honour to be asked to participate in the Zwanze 2024 event, and in keeping with that we're going to be laying on a celebration of Lambic beer like we've never done before. Across the day, we'll be pouring from beer from our favourite producers across keg, bottle and by the glass bottle pours on a first come first served basis - alongside obviously the 2024 Zwanze Day Beer.
Expect Belgian inspired dishes, meats, and cheeses throughout the day, including authentic trappist cheese. Our kitchen will be open from 12pm - 9pm to keep you well fed throughout.
We will have 6 Brasserie Cantillon keg beers pouring including the Zwanze '24
⚠️ Zwanze will NOT be available to take out. This is to prioritise the folks making the journey to us, the magnitude of the event in hand and to make sure that the beer is enjoyed in house by as many people as possible on site.
