Back in 1931 a group of thespians, members of the Bolton Dramatic Society, decided to set up Bolton Little Theatre.
(262)

We are a vibrant amateur theatre company run by members we put on a programme of seven plays each year, running from Saturday to Saturday generally excluding Sunday and we put on extra nights for charities and parties. They were determined to present the best of contemporary and classic drama for which they felt they needed a theatre under their own control, as a precedent for this was being set all over the country. Today the theatre, based on Hannover Street in the centre of Bolton, continues to engage with audiances of all ages. Offering seven plays a season, from classics to comedy, this award winning amateur theatre can certainly count itself on a par with many of the professional theatres.

Bolton Little Theatre stages Alan Ayckbourn’s dark comedy Woman In Mind from October 24-31, following Sheridan Smith’s West End revival.

19/10/2026

Just a matter of days until WOMAN IN MIND hits the stage.
The cast have been having a great time at rehearsals with Ayckbourn's deeper and darker comedy about housewife Susan and her boring cleric husband. Why not just replace her mundane existence with a perfect fantasy? But fantasies can turn into nightmares...

Darkly funny, 'Woman In Mind' is considered one of Alan Ayckbourn's most personal, affecting, and psychologically complex works, tracking a suburban housewife's sliding mental breakdown between reality and hallucination.
Here are some of the company giving you a little taste.

Meet Susan. She has a husband, a family, a perfectly respectable home — and, quite frankly, she deserves better! So, when an unexpected accident sends Susan drifting into a wonderfully vivid fantasy world, life suddenly becomes much more interesting.
But as her dream life grows increasingly irresistible, the line between fantasy and reality begins to disappear. And when the two worlds collide, things take a deliciously dark and hilariously unpredictable turn.
Alan Ayckbourn’s WOMAN IN MIND is a sharp, funny and surprisingly poignant comedy about marriage, family, loneliness and the seductive power of imagination.
