Back to Arundel for a scenic walk around and back into town to look at the festival. It was very quiet compared to previous year's, but we eventually found some good live music, and a nice place to have a picnic.

Arundel Walk and Festival
Dear Walkers.
Extra Walk Sunday 30th August 2026

Peter and Helen are offering an extra walk to coincide with Arundel Festival 2026 as we have done for the last few years.
Meet at the entrance of the main car park in Mill Lane (opposite the castle) at 10.45am to set off at 11am. You can park in Mill Lane if you are lucky enough to find a space, otherwise parking is usually £5 for the whole day.
We start the walk in Mill Lane, following a path by the riverbank to the bridge opposite Swanbourne Lake. Then, after crossing the road, we take the path around the lake to the top and the Folly beyond, to return to the top end of town near the cathedral.
Arundel Festival of the Arts takes place in the historic town centre and incorporates street entertainment, dance, music, culture and the arts. Last year we spent several hours there, enjoying the festival, music, dancing and meeting others. Bring a picnic - or take advantage of the vast array of pubs, cafes, restaurants and street food vendors.
The weather may be on and off with a few scattered showers, so please bring suitable clothing, waterproofs and strong footwear.
Please let us know if you are coming on the walk by Saturday 29th.

Photos from today's gorgeous walk around Arundel. We had more cloud and a cool breeze, making conditions a lot more comfortable. Worked up a good appetite for a yummy lunch at the Black Rabbit 😃🍻

Dear Walkers

Peter and I would like to lead a walk this coming Sunday, July 26th, from the Black Rabbit Pub, Mill Lane, Arundel, BN18 9PB. Meet at 10.45am (for the usual 11am start) - and if possible park in the top car park, or further down the lane behind the pub where there is shade. We encourage lift sharing where possible to avoid congestion in the car park.

This walk is a favourite of Tony and Jane’s, who kindly printed directions for us. From the Black Rabbit Pub there is some road walking, before taking a fairly steep path uphill into the countryside. When we reach the forest at the top, you can enjoy beautiful views over the Arun valley. There may be sheep around, so all dogs must be on leads when we go through the estate.

Eventually we descend to end up on the path around Swanbourne Lake and after circumnavigating the lake, return to the road. Crossing the road, we take a gentler scenic path from the bridge and follow the river bank back to the start.

The weather looks more unsettled on Sunday with a 20% chance of rain, so please bring waterproofs just in case and as some paths can be slippery, suitable footwear.

It is difficult to book the Black Rabbit for a group, but there are lots of tables outside, not to mention an outdoor seating area overlooking the river (nice view of Arundel Castle in the distance). For that reason, I suggest we split into small groups and hopefully find a table, then order and pay for your lunch at the bar. They don’t accept cash either, only credit cards.

Please let us know if you are coming on the walk by Saturday 25th. We politely ask that people tell us, and not just turn up.
