💔💔💔

It is with a ton of sadness that we’re posting this. We officially made the decision last week to close Laurences for good.

We have made the decision after setting up a larger venue Laurels, Whitley Bay that has went from strength to strength which has taking all of our energy away from where we started in Blyth.

This won’t be the end of the companies work in Blyth, we have several outreach projects planned for the next 3 years to make theatre work in the area but we’ll no longer have 79 Waterloo Road as a base.

There’s been so many brilliant memories, from crazy Christmas Adverts to charity work to pantomimes to the first time tacos had popped up in Blyth. From German beer Steins to Windmill men to dancing till late and bottomless brunches galore.

We opened the gaff in a pandemic, made it work, made a bigger venue from it and had a proper proper lush time.

Thanks Blyth. Do pop over to Whitley to say hello to us if you fancy a brilliant night out.

Jamie and the team.

- Note the venue is now officially back on the market, so any interest please do drop [email protected] For anyone with time and passion and the right ideas it could be your little gold mine. ❤️

We’re back baby!!! 🥰🥰🥰

We’ve been away a few months making sure Laurels, Whitley Bay is the sickest venue known to man for the next 10 years and further so had to give the wee lass a little rest 🎭🎟🎶

But we’re opening our doors for a one off event next Saturday 10th September for an unreal day and night filled with banging tunes and banging tacos. We couldn’t reopen with 2 of our staples could we 🤷🏻‍♂️

And we’ve teamed up with the mint NEway for the tunes and the class Giz A Birria Taco, Pet for the scran. Daddy’s back! 🌮🎶

Open from Midday- Midnight. No booking required just rock up 🔝

Lush baby girl. Bloody lush. 💃🏼

A Laurences announcement

We are currently going through a complete overhaul of our operations and governance to align with exactly who we are.

Lots of people don’t actually know but Laurences is an offshoot of arts organisation The ‘Theatre N16 LTD’ Group 🎭🌮

We set up Laurences during the pandemic to keep the business running when the arts were on its knees due to covid and no live entertainment existing in its traditional form. 💪

So now things are getting better we’ve formulated an exciting plan but a plan that means things will be changing at our little gaff on Waterloo Road 👇

The ‘Theatre N16 LTD’ Group runs Laurences and our bigger sister down the coast Laurels: The Ultimate Entertainment Venue Our mission is to develop artists and provide career opportunities in live performance using a business model focused on creating great nights out with a thriving food and drinks operation. Our three year plan is to ensure that our work and artists are recognised nationally and our food and drinks operation continue but with w major shift to the time and resources being spent on them 🧐

So what does this mean for Laurences?

Firstly the whole organisation is shifting to a more sustainable model, becoming a CIC (A community interest company) to allow us access to more funding opportunities and be managed through a sort of “board” type governance that will allow us to grow and set up to continue to make art and great nights out into the future.

For Laurences it means that we will only be open when we have events on. That means open less through the year but a calendar of events to be launched to ensure that every time you came into the gaff there was always something on our stage to see whilst you eat our class food. It also means the space will be used for developing artists more as we forge relationships with larger organisations around the country and a few more famous ones too. We are delighted to keep our takeaways running constantly every week though as these won’t take away from the work that’s being developed with us.

So in a nutshell: 😎

- We’re going big to create artistic opportunities down the coast in the North East. 💪

- We’ll be open less but when we are open there’ll always be something to see on our stage 🎭

- Free functions: You can still have your parties with us! And you can have the gaff all for you and your pals for totally free! 😍

- Takeaways continue. Our lush scran will always be available to your door 🌮🛺

- More content: Like our daft adverts? Wait till you see what we have up our sleeves.

These are important time for the arts as they recover from Covid 19 and as the country tries to level up The ‘Theatre N16 LTD’ Group will now strive to produce and develop as much work as possible that represents our little stretch of coast so one day you can be watching the telly and say “Eeeeh isn’t that lad from Blyth?”

Full events calendar launched in the next month so watch this space or get in touch now to book your special night! 🔥🔥🔥

Mission. Activated. 💪🔥🌮🎭
