This time, we’re raising money for the fantastic Dorset Air Ambulance 🚁❤️ — so come along, put your thinking caps on and help us support an incredible local charity.

And, of course, Quiz Master Supreme Phil will be back to entertain, challenge and generally confuse you with his unique blend of wit and wisdom! 😂

As Phil so eloquently puts it:

🤣 We’re sure we’ll be hearing the likes of “I’m sure it’s…”, “I KNOW this one!” and “That’s definitely right!” throughout the evening!

We couldn’t be more thrilled to share some very special news with our wonderful Iwerne Minster community…

Jake has won GOLD at the Special Olympics! 🥇🥇🥇

When we held our quiz evening at The Talbot, it was all about supporting Jake and Sam, who had both been selected to take part in the Special Olympics in Birmingham.

We knew how much this opportunity meant to them, but also that getting there came with a significant financial challenge. So we asked our amazing Iwerne Minster community to get behind them — and, as always, you didn’t disappoint. ❤️

You turned up, joined in the quiz, bought raffle tickets, donated generously and helped us raise funds towards Jake and Sam’s journey.

What an incredible achievement! We are absolutely delighted for Jake and everyone who has supported him throughout his swimming journey. To see him achieve his dream after all the hard work, dedication and determination is just fantastic. ❤️

A heartfelt THANK YOU to every single person who supported our quiz evening and helped us raise money for these two amazing young men. Your generosity helped give Jake and Sam the opportunity to travel to Birmingham and represent themselves doing something they love.

It makes us incredibly proud to know that our little village came together to support their dreams.

From all of us at The Talbot, we are so proud to have played a small part in their journey. ❤️

A Small Change to Our Opening Hours

As we head into our final two and a half months as landlords of The Talbot, we’re making a small change to our opening hours to help us manage the operational side of the pub while also giving us some much-needed time to prepare for our move and tackle all the administration that comes with moving on.

The good news is that Wednesday lunch is the only change — all our other opening hours remain exactly the same. 😊

We wanted to let you know in advance so there’s no confusion, and we hope you’ll understand that, with everything we have going on behind the scenes, this small adjustment will make things a little more manageable for us.

💙 THE TALBOT QUIZ – CELEBRATING IAN SWARBRICK 💙

Tuesday 18 August | 7pm

This one is a little different.

Next week we’ll be holding The Talbot Quiz in memory of our much-loved Ian Swarbrick, with all proceeds going to Parkinson’s UK.

But while we are raising money for a wonderful cause, this evening is really about celebrating Ian — remembering the character, the humour, the stories, the cheeky one-liners and the enormous smile that made him such a much-loved part of our village.

Since becoming Landlords of The Talbot, Ian quickly became one of those familiar faces who simply felt like part of the furniture.

We’ll particularly miss seeing him on Mondays and Tuesdays — the days we’re closed… but apparently not closed for Ian! 😂

And of course, there was his breakfast order:

🥓 Extra crispy bacon sarnie!

Ian had a wicked sense of humour and could deliver a one-liner with the cheekiest look on his face and the biggest smile. Even towards the end, he never lost that spark.

He was passionate about cricket — thankfully leaving most of those conversations to Richard! — and his knowledge of history and his life experience as a policeman made for some fascinating conversations.

Most of all, we’ll remember Ian’s warmth, his humour and his presence. He became such a special part of The Talbot, and we will miss him enormously.

So, on Tuesday 18th, let’s get together, raise a glass, have a few laughs, exercise those little grey cells and celebrate Ian in the best way we can.💙

❤️ AUGUST AT THE TALBOT – A BITTERSWEET MONTH ❤️

August is going to be a very bittersweet month for us at The Talbot.
As the Landlords of our village pub, one of the unexpected privileges has been getting to know so many wonderful people in our village. Two of those people, Dennis Webb and Ian Swarbrick, sadly passed away recently, and this month we have the honour of hosting their Celebrations of Life here at The Talbot.

Our thoughts are with both families and all those who loved them. It is a privilege for us to open our doors and provide a place where their families and friends can come together, share stories and celebrate their lives.

A huge thank you for your understanding after we postponed last week's braai. We had the privilege of hosting one of our village legends' 80th birthday celebration... and let's just say it turned into a party that gave a 21st a run for its money! 🎉🍻
