A Heartfelt Farewell from The Gate
It’s with a heavy heart that I announce the closure of The Gate.
Over the years, this pub has been more than just a business — it’s been a place of community, laughter, friendship, and unforgettable moments. I want to thank every single person who supported us — from our brilliant staff (past and present), to our amazing regulars, the passionate Blackburn Rovers fans, and the pool, darts, and football teams who helped make The Gate what it was.
Although times have changed, I’m incredibly proud of everything we built and all the memories created here. A lot of heart and hard work went into running this pub, and I’ll always be grateful for the journey.
There have been highs and lows, as with any small, independent pub — especially one run as a free house. The financial challenges have been significant. With limited support from banks, rising costs, and a tough economic climate, staying viable became more and more difficult. Even efforts to adapt — like introducing food — came with their own challenges and trade-offs.
For me personally, stepping away also comes down to family. Caring for my autistic child requires more time and focus, and the demands of running a pub just don’t fit the life my family needs right now.
The Gate will initially become a residential dwelling while I decide on its long‑term future. For now, the time has come to close the doors — but not without special final celebrations.
Saturday, 30th August will be our last day open as a public house, marking the Blackburn Rovers vs Norwich City game — a day open to all to celebrate together one last time. The following evening, Sunday 31st August, will be our farewell evening — an invitation-only closing-down event where I’ll be raising a final glass to this chapter of our lives.
With heartfelt gratitude to every one of you ❤️
