Built in 1840 for the owner of a Painting & Decorating business, its address was the Worcester Turnpike (before being re-named as Hagley Road). It was a private house, with coach yard and stables until after WW11.

It was then occupied by the Birmingham Limbless Ex-Servicemen's Club.

In the early 80s, having been empty for some time, the building was renovated for use as a Private member's Club by Michael Tombs Horton of Horton Estates and Peter Inston the renowned architect (Swallow Hotel conversion from TI House and many others here and in Barbados). It was known as 'The 64 Hagley Road Club' and boasted a cocktail bar, dining room, discotheque, patio and croquet lawn.

In early 1983 Michael Boots and his then wife Rena took it over and re-named it 'Club Sixty Four' - still a Private Club ( https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100040111813263 ).

It operated until 1989 when Andreas Gregoriou and Ted Wheatley bought it and operated it first as a continuation of the French restaurant it had partly been, then as a Chinese restaurant. It was eventually taken over by the American chain of Spearmint Rhino.
