DJ Spotlight 📣

Just under three weeks to go until our next party with Shy One and we’re continuing to shine a light on the DJs joining her on the night.

Next up: MiSHA.

MiSHA is a multi-genre DJ based in Birmingham. Chopping genres from grime, dubstep, and techy bass heavy genres.

A key figure in the city’s bubbling underground, she curated a lineup for ETFM Invasion at Dead Wax Digbeth, and has played across some of Birmingham’s most loved spaces, including The Rainbow, XOYO, Bene Culture and the Hare & Hounds.

More recently, with her residency on Sigil Radio she’s invited guests such as Jossy Mitsu, and uses the platform to spotlight Birmingham’s finest local talent.

MiSHA is one to watch and we can’t wait for her to go b2b with LILITH to close the night, bringing those weighty, bass-driven sounds.

We’re very excited to welcome the incredibly talented  LILITH to our next Variations party on 9th May - who will be playing with us for the very first time!

Co-Founder of Manchester’s Lustrous and previously Birmingham’s Club Bandit collective, over the past 7 years LILITH has supported a host of international talent including Lady Shaka, LSDXOXO, Ikonika, Blumitsu, LCN, Madam X, and Nooriyah.

In LILITH’s signature sound, heavyweight bass meets percussive electrónica - packed with flavour, and igniting the dancefloor right up to the whistle. With emphasis on SWANA beats inspired by her Cypriot heritage, Latin rhythms from her time living in Spain, and the UK Bass sound that piqued her interest in electronic music, she’s known to run anything - from Grime to Balkan Pop to Neo-Perreo to Footwork. On her Sigil Radio hour ‘Audio Mezze’, this spice rack of pan-global selections and unlikely pairings takes centre stage.

LILITH is the perfect booking for our next event with Shy One and we’re looking forward to her taking the sound deeper as we close the night!

NEW SHOW ANNOUNCEMENT!

After our incredible sell-out show last week with Ni Maxine, we’re pleased to announce our next party — welcoming SHY ONE to the dancefloor!

Fresh from the release of her long-awaited second album Mali (out 12 March), this one feels special.

A key figure in underground club culture, Shy One’s journey runs from teenage pirate radio to a celebrated residency on BBC Radio 1, alongside her long-running show on NTS Radio. Her early productions caught the ear of Scratcha DVA, who released her first EP and debut album on his influential DVA Music imprint.

Her DJ sets and productions draw deeply from grime, broken beat, house, jazz and the full spectrum of Black British club music — always joined up, always personal.

As a DJ, she’s become a trusted presence on some of the world’s most respected floors, with standout appearances at Panorama Bar, NYC’s Nowadays, and festivals including Glastonbury, GALA, We Out Here and Nuits Sonores.

As a producer, she’s released music on labels such as Eglo, Rhythm Section and Numbers, while collaborating with artists including George Riley, Steve Spacek, Private Joy and James Massiah.

Released on Touching Bass, Mali marks a moment of clarity — a deeply personal album named after her given name, rich in Black British collaboration and late-night feeling, balancing dancefloor knowledge with soul and storytelling.

This show lands just after the album release — a chance to catch Shy One in full flow, connecting the dots between the world of Mali and the dancefloor.

We’re also welcoming Dee Cleo, TONi, Misha and Lill’Lou to the decks — some of our favourite selectors in Birmingham right now.

Hello- if you are new here, we wanted to tell you a little bit about Variations!

Variations is a Birmingham-based grassroots music series creating new connections between jazz, global rhythms and contemporary club culture. We started in 2022 in response to a clear gap in the city’s nightlife — a lack of spaces where jazz-influenced music, global traditions and a progressive club community could truly coexist.

Originally launched as a club night platforming predominantly female and gender-expansive DJs, Variations blended broken beats, world rhythms, soulful house and percussive grooves.

We soon evolved to include live jazz quartets alongside DJs, creating a hybrid dancefloor experience that moves fluidly between live performance and club culture — opening new audiences for jazz musicians and new ways of listening for club-goers.

As we head into 2026, we’re now programming live band shows and club events in their own right. We’ve worked hard to build a community, and we’re so proud to have just had our first-ever sold-out show with the incredible Ni Maxine!!!

This is just the beginning. We’ve got so many amazing artists lined up this year and we can’t wait for you to join us.
