Our quirky take on an old pub building...

Inspired by the DIY approach of cities like Berlin and Budapest we've put effort rather than expense into a creating place where people can relax and enjoy the basics - good drinks, good food, good company and good music. We've tried to hold on to as much of the past as possible whilst adding a few extra bits here and there to make somewhere which is, if nothing else, different.

We still haven’t found out what happened to our second floor. In fact, we used to think this was probably another, similar, classic corner pub until we zoomed in on the street signs and saw it was definitely our building. On the second pic you can kind of make out where the wall has been rebuilt above the first floor windows.

🎶 For our next session we have invited the phenomenal DAVE SEAR to The Ruin - joined by our house band

👉 Dave Sear is paving the way for jazz trombone in the UK, and is a regular sight on gigs throughout a multitude of genres. He gained a place at the prestigious Birmingham Conservatoire in 2012 and graduated with a First Class Degree (BMus Hons) in July 2016.

🔥In January 2021 Dave became an official artist for B.A.C trombones and in 2022 he joined the faculty at Birmingham Conservatoire teaching jazz trombone, alongside releasing his debut album - rated 5* BBC Music.

Sunday afternoon Jazz - this Sunday! 2-5pm. Saxophonist and composer David Bustos brings his quartet to The Ruin.
His music draws influence from the spirit of jazz greats such as Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders, as well as contemporary music from the likes of Ambrose Akinmusire, Björk, and Andrew Renfroe.

🎶 HE’S BACK (not that he ever left). For this month’s session we’re incredibly excited to welcome our very own REECE DOWTON (and a few other familiar faces) to the stage with his band Reece’s Pieces! Featuring an eclectic mix of bop standards, rock, blues, and more - this won’t be one to miss!

🎶 Hot off the heels of our last session with the legendary Simon Spillet, we’re incredibly excited to invite back the amazing pianist and composer MARCUS COATES to start our summer program!

👉 Birmingham based pianist and composer Marcus Coates is in his 3rd year at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire,
His early influences include such musicians as Erroll Garner and George Shearing, to more modern artists such as Sullivan Fortner and Brad Mehldau.

💥 He will be playing a mixture of new takes on standards as well as some original compositions.

🎶 He will be joined by the Jazz at The Ruin House Band featuring....
