🍻 Development Spotlight: The Beer Shed & Terrace 🍻

The courtyard at The Red Lion is being designed as a lively, informal outdoor drinking space centred around the iconic Joule’s Green Monkey beer shed.

With long benches, barrel tables and flexible seating, the garden will be a relaxed and social spot for sunny afternoons and busy evenings alike.

A second-tier terrace from the Salle de Dégustation will overlook the courtyard, with iron stairs leading down into the heart of the garden below.

As with the rest of the pub, the design works carefully with the character of this listed building, creating a courtyard that feels full of personality and atmosphere.

Development Spotlight: The Salle de Dégustation 🍷

Upstairs at The Red Lion, the Salle de Dégustation will become a wine-led club room designed as a more refined contrast to the lively bars below.

Inspired by traditional wine salons and old club rooms, the space will centre around a feature wine cabinet wall, with warm brickwork, panelled walls and comfortable seating creating a calm, welcoming atmosphere.

Artwork and references to Bordeaux and Château Bessan will give the room its own identity, making it ideal for wine tastings, private dining, meetings and special events.

As with the rest of the pub, the approach focuses on working carefully with the character of this listed building while creating spaces people genuinely want to spend time in.

In contrast to the brighter Saloon Bar, the Smoke Room will be a darker, more intimate space inspired by traditional snug bars.

Reclaimed timber panelling, warm low lighting and deep leather seating will create a room that feels settled, characterful and full of atmosphere.

A feature fireplace will anchor the space, making it a perfect spot for quieter drinks and longer conversations.

As with the rest of the pub, our approach focuses on restoring and celebrating the character of this listed building while creating spaces people genuinely want to spend time in.

Behind every room at The Red Lion is a huge amount of thought around materials, detail and craftsmanship.

These tile samples are part of the process as we carefully select finishes for the Saloon Bar, helping us create a space that feels authentic to the buildings Victorian character.

Working with a listed building, it’s important that every element feels right from colours and textures through to the smallest details.

The Saloon Bar will be the heart of The Red Lion designed as a classic Victorian parlour bar, rich in detail and craftsmanship.

Think stained glass, decorative tiling, warm lighting and traditional timber furniture, all coming together to create a welcoming space full of atmosphere.

As a listed building, preserving and celebrating the pubs original character is incredibly important to us and much of the work focuses on restoring and revealing the features that make The Red Lion so special.
