Happy Birthday 🥳 to Ian Kenneth Taylor (born 4 June 1968), an English former professional footballer and sports television pundit, best known for his decade-long spell with Aston Villa.

A dynamic and goalscoring midfielder, Taylor became a fan favourite at Villa Park after joining the club in 1994. During his time with Aston Villa, he made 233 appearances and scored 28 goals, including a memorable goal in the 1996 League Cup Final victory over Leeds United. A lifelong Villa supporter, he helped the club win the League Cup and reach the FA Cup Final during one of the most successful periods of his career.

Taylor’s football journey began in non-league football with Moor Green, where he scored an impressive 67 goals in 235 appearances. He turned professional with Port Vale in 1992, winning the Football League Trophy in 1993 and earning back-to-back places in the PFA Second Division Team of the Year (1992–93 and 1993–94), as well as the club’s Player of the Year award.

After a brief spell with Sheffield Wednesday, Taylor joined Aston Villa later in 1994 for a £1 million transfer fee. Across a distinguished 15-year Football League and Premier League career, he scored 103 goals in 577 league and cup appearances.

Following his departure from Villa in 2003, Taylor joined Derby County, helping the club reach the Championship play-offs, before moving to Northampton Town in 2005. He played a key role in Northampton’s promotion from League Two in the 2005–06 season and announced his retirement from professional football in April 2007.
