Shaping a new music future for Birkenhead

Future Yard is a new 280-capacity live venue at 75 Argyle Street. This new community venue will bring some of today’s most exciting new national and international artists to Wirral, while at the same time providing key early performance opportunities for emerging local musicians. As well as a venue, Future Yard is an artist hub with basement rehearsal studios and a development programme to help artist members to grow their careers. A number of training programmes are also run alongside all activity, providing key opportunities for young people from the local area to get the first step on the ladder in the live music industry. Future Yard is working towards becoming the first carbon-neutral grassroots music venue in the North of England, and one of the first in the UK. The building is open 7 days a week as a coffee shop, bar, events space and kitchen, with a busy programme of activities.

Liverpool-based Blueprint are a genre-bending 5-piece jazz-fusion band redefining how complex music connects.

Sonically, Blueprint sit within a new wave of female-fronted bands such as Forager and Willow. Inspired by the off-kilter grooves of Haitus Kaiyote and the melodic vocals of Joni Mitchell, they craft a contemporary jazz sound that blends intricate rhythms, rich harmony and adventurous songwriting.

Grooverider, Doc Scott and J Majik take on Birkenhead on Saturday 20th February as part of Metalheadz Blue Note Sessions.

Metalheadz is the pioneering Drum and Bass label founded by Goldie, Kemistry + Storm in 1994. Metalheadz were the driving force behind the seminal Sunday Sessions Club nights taking place at London’s Blue Note club. As part of a new series, they’re taking this club night across the UK and we can’t wait to welcome them to Birkenhead.

Join us and the Tranmere Rovers Supporters Trust for an evening featuring conversations with some great Rovers players, plus live music from Birkenhead's answer to Devo (and TRFC season ticket holders) Marmalite Band. Plus, Alex Timperley of MCFC Fans Foodbank Support speaks to Darren Bernstein from The FSA about Alex's new book 'For The Love: How Football Supporters Can Change The World.

Multi award-winning singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Rosalie Cunningham (ex Purson/Ipso Facto) takes on Birkenhead.

Her self-titled debut album, released in 2019, contained some of her most compelling and daring songwriting to dated. The album was Mercury Music Prize nominated, earning a Top 10 placing in the UK’s official independent chart and attracting fantastic reviews and stellar ratings from Classic Rock, Uncut, Mojo and Kerrang.

Her most recent works ‘To Shoot Another Day’ builds on the psychedelic roots and progressive sensibilities that have always been at the heart of her music, while also exploring new sonic territories. The album’s eclectic soundscape ranges from saccharine pop to smooth lounge jazz, all the way to fuzzy heavy metal, ensuring that there is something for every listener.
