The Thatched Inn

The Thatched Inn The Thatched Inn is a traditional historic pub situated just outside of Bideford in the small village of Abbotsham.

As its name suggest the 15th century stone building has a thatched roof and was originally 3 stone cottages before being converted into a public house. The interior of this ancient inn is equally charming and full of character as many of the buildings original features remain. In the recently refurbished Bar and Restaurants gleaming brassware hangs from the walls and exposed beams to further compl

iment the atmosphere. Not surprisingly, a place this old, steeped in history also has a resident ghost; a former customer who use to meet his loved one at The Thatched Inn! The Thatched Inn has a well deserved reputation for excellent home cooked food at reasonable prices.

This morning our fearless landlord was spotted eating breakfast on a picnic bench that definitely, absolutely, 100% did not start its life here!

Yes dear Rob - your bench has once again packed its little wooden suitcase and run away to somewhere it will actually get used.

At this point the bench has spent more time here with us than some of your regulars 😂We’re thinking of adopting it. Maybe even give it a plaque. 🤪

Don’t worry though- we will return it soon.
We know you miss it. 😭

Tonight’s steak service wasn’t cooking — it was a full‑blown fire festival.
Flames everywhere. Chefs moving like they’re dodging tax collectors.
One steak even tried to make a run for it.
