A fairly long post coming, so grab yourself a coffee and put your feet up while I blather on.
Many of you will have read that I've signed a deal to run The Lord Nelson pub just a few hundred yards fro m Monks Walk. (For those of you who don't know where it is - and there's a surprising number of you - it's at the east end of the Minster, between The Sun and the level crossing).
I have no plans to quit Monks Walk but the Nelson is, if you like, a Plan B, Plan A continues to be to buy the Monks but, until the money is there, we remain vulnerable to someone else coming in with the cash and taking it away. So if you know of anyone who'd like to help us with a loan then please suggest they get in touch. We're already well on the way, but there's still a large hole to fill.
Plan B can run alongside Plan A or stand alone. It's a surprisingly large pub area with a decent-sized beer garden and my wonderful staff are currently in there, cleaning the walls and getting ready to give it a thorough repaint which should brighten it up and make it much more attractive. Just waiting for those tins to arrive at Wilkos now.
It's not going to be a clone of Monks, but it will try and create the same sort of relaxed atmosphere for couples, dog-walkers, single women, single men, families and groups of all ages as we have at the moment. There will be a greater emphasis on wines, soft drinks, spirits and cocktails but we shall still be serving local ales from Great Newsome and Wold Top alongside. The range will be restricted so I'll stick to the ever-popular ales like Anglers Reward and Wold Gold. We'll also have a wide range of lagers from Carling through to Pravha and keg beers from Brew Dog.
And that's the plan - reopening once the paint has dried some time during week commencing 17th July. I'll see if there's a suitable anniversary date we can hang it around to make it a bit special and let you all know.
Anyway, that's it for now
