The free trade

The free trade Its a lovely, friendly pub. Built in 1847 and re-arranged and refitted in c.1910 with few alterations since.

We have 2 pool teams which play on a Thursday and numerous darts teams in different leagues on a Monday, Tuesday Thursday and Friday. The layout, the result of a highly unusual partition, is, from CAMRA's considerable research, considered to be the only example left in the whole of the UK. The very rare partition with its iron stays attached to the ceiling forms a corridor down the left side that

allowed those using the off-sales counter in the middle of the pub privacy from people in the bar. A door in the partition leads into the basic, wood-panelled front bar, which was two small rooms, it retains its original bar counter, original bar-back with drawers and shelves held up by fluted pillasters, bench seating with bell-pushes and Edwardian tiled fireplace. The off sales area still retains its counter but the area is usually filled up with a cigarette machine and other clutter. The rear smoke room beyond an Edwardian glazed partition wall has a small continuation of the original bar back in the public bar, an old, but not original, fireplace and more recent bench seating.

A phone was left in the pub last night if it's yours it's waiting for you behind the bar (we know the name of the owner)...

Update on the last couple of weeks to follow but a couple of not so nice things frst apologies but I have no control over them. Firstly in case youre wondering whywe aren't putting the lights on anymore is we can't as another kind person snapped them. Now is the time to paint and new lights will be put up. The other thing is prices are going to have to go up sorry in advance but we will still be cheaper than most

So update on the last couple of weeks, Dad's darts still going strong some great darts played thank you all for your continued support. Saturday 12th wasn't the busiest but was a fantastic night brilliant atmosphere and some great singers, thank you you to James Gall and Jack Dalrymple. Great week then Saturday 19th through the day we had the lovely ladies and gentlemen down from Edinburgh to watch the Rugby special thanks to Deborah Barton you and your team were fabulous hope to see you again soon. Night time Alex Renton and Graeme Nisbet were in the building, absolutely brilliant everyone really enjoyed it thank you both and also Paul Scott for organising things. Sunday club (hope nobody minds the name) seemed to enjoy themselves and the beer garden was a hit again. Thank you to Jack again for Saturday night and Sunday and the lovely Jenny Catherine Vevers for nightime. Well done for putting up.with us when we came back from Edinburgh. Just another note although we don't do food we are more than happy for people to visit our neighbours and bring their delicious food in from Ozkans and U've pulled. Back to karaoke this week I'm doing it but not singing noone needs to hear that haha. Exciting times ahead in the Zone keep checking for details. Minden Day this weekend we are looking forward to seeing many of our Soldiers again this year. Please remember It's OK not to be OK, Punk's not Dead and always Keep the Faith ###

So I haven't done this for 5 weeks (you have been warned). My Dad's darts competition has been amazing I think 16 was the lowest amount of entries. Some amazing darts have been played though tbh I've been too busy serving to see most of it thank you all. Moving the pool table has made a massive difference to the Zone and despite a lot of chatter we still have a pool team and loads of people playing on other nights as well. The jukebox is fabulous as will the laptop be when we get a new one sorted. Music is very important to.me as it keeps me close to Eddie Collins so still hoping to get the old one fixed. Some stupendous singing, dancing over the last few weeks if anyone has any photos we could add them to the Free Trade Page as you really couldn't make most of it up. Thank you to everyone who has worked behind the bar Laura Cromarty , Nicola Dudgeon , Vivien Dempsey , Lucy Mitchell, Laura Hunter, James Gall , Angela Dudgeon , Jenny Catherine Vevers, David Gallon , Kirstie Forbes , Claire Rachel Mabon , Martyn Henry. The beer garden is still a work in progress but now the grass is greener on the other side more furniture can be added. It has been well used so far. All these changes have been necessary and are something my mam and dad wanted to do, he's been around quite a bit lately just making sure we are doing a good job. Entertainment (apart from.me) has been fantastic the place has been jumping on Saturday nights thank you to Steve Hayward never a dull moment and more recently Paul Scott Saturday night was brilliant and I'm not just talking about the thunder and lightening, even when the lecky went off you seamlessly kept going. Exciting times ahead in the Zone People please remember Punk's not Dead, It's good to talk and always Keep the Faith ###xx
