Good news everybody!

So, here is a question for you guys -
Is it too early for Mulled W**e?

Can you already snuggle up with a nice, hot, spiced w**e to keep the cold away or should you wait until December, because Mulled W**e is a "Christmasy winter drink" ?

I just had my first glass of the good stuff and thoroughly enjoyed it. Forgot how tasty gingerbread can be, hmmm...
Well, as a German I might be a bit biased, but my rule is - if it get' s dark and cold outside, Glühwein will become my best friend.

Well, let me know where you stand.
Like it or can't stand the stuff, only for Christmas markets, never to early or rather wait a bit longer...

Tucked away in West Street is one of the well kept secrets from Berwick, a little place called Flinders W**e Bar. Quite unassuming from the outside, but wonderful inside. Cozy and welcoming, relaxing, games, fab selection of drinks and delicious food. Dog friendly and kids are welcome too.
Wonder along West Street and pop in for a little look, a rest, a break, a drink....

Let's finish this week with my favourite author of all time, Agatha Christie! My go to when life gets tough and I need cheering up, need to escape, like to disappear into a different world.

When Agatha Christie died on 12 January 1976, she was known throughout the world as the Queen of Crime, unrivalled as the best - selling novelist of all time with two billion books sold in more than 100 languages. Though she kept her private life a mystery, for some years Agatha has secretly written her autobiography, and when it was published after her death, millions of her fans agreed -
This was her best story!

When thinking of all things British, G&T comes to mind. Refrehing, uplifting, happy, a feel good drink, just like the book.

So everyone, grap yourself a good read, pour yourself a glass and finish this week on a high.

Today it's time for" The Cathedral of the Sea" by Ildefonso Falcones.

A historical novel which takes place in 14th century Barcelona at the hight of the city's trade and military power in the Mediterranen, during the construction of Santa del Mar serving as background to the story.

The book was give to my by a friend, again with a warning, that tears are very likely. And they did come. Such beautiful storytelling, transporting you back in time.
Visiting Barcelona years later and standing at place, where the action took place, was a wonderful experience.

I could have gone for a cheeky vino tinto as my liquid of choice, but I like you to try something different, our wonderful Verdejo. Often compared with Sauvignon Blanc (less grassy), vibrant, light, crisp, citrus flavours, high acidity... Drama in a glass.

So, if Barcelona is on your travel list, take Falcones with you. He is great company.

Todays recommendation is Lee Child's Reacher series. Pretty sure most of you have heard of the books in one way or another, Film, TV...
But if not, let me tell you - Jack Reacher is a self proclaimed drifter and former U.S. Army Military police officer with formidable strength, intellect, and abilities. During his travels he crosses paths with dangerous criminals and becomes involved in conspiracies.

My first Reacher came from the library. Back then I took books out alphabetically. Each visit another letter. I stuck with C for a while.

C is also the first letter of my chosen w**e.
Chardonnay! Our Gran Reserva Chardonnay comes from Chile. Rich, textured, notes of vanilla and butterscotch and a gentle nuttiness. Like the books, like them or hate them, some are better than others. You might have outgrown them and found others more sophisticated, but in the hour of need the Chardonnay becomes your best friend. We all need a Reacher in our lives.

Well, everyone meet Elif Shafak and her book "Honour". A powerful multigenetational family Saga of a Turkish-Kurdish immigrant family.

My sister urged me to take this book on holiday. Reluctlandly I did, nerver really thinking of reading it. To big, not a happy holiday topic... But then on one rainy day, nothing better to do, I started the book. I was hooked, could not put it down and finished it the same day. What a beautiful read! What
wonderful story telling! What a suprise!

Our Negroamaro is a wonderful match for such a beautiful book. Dark, but not heavy, rich, smooth, velvety, fruity, hints of earthiness... a pleasure to drink. Olives are optional, but why not.

So, if you in the mood for a suprising read and a little know w**e, give both a try.

Today I like you to meet Simon Scarrow's Eagles of the Empire series. The series follow the millitary and personal lives of two Roman army heroes: the Veteran Centurion Lucius Cornelius Marco and the educated officer Quintus Licinius Cato.

Years ago, my old employer ask me if I like to take these books and I said Yes. Was I particularly interested in the Roman Empire?Not at all, but I gave it a try and I was hooked.
I hope you will be too.

So, what would I recommend? Definitely our Primitivo! Bold, full-bodied, rustic, earthy, rubust, dark and very Enjoyable. Cato and Marco would approve. "Salute!"
