What a weekend!
Karl Bushby, British adventurer, stayed with us for 2 nights from Friday.
We were first approached by Karls team late on Wednesday to see if we had a room they could book. I instantly offered this free of charge and spoke to the guys about Barton and how good the community spirit is.
Within a couple of hours I'd made some phone calls and got the ball rolling. Ben Troop was as enthusiastic as I was about giving Karl a good send off over the bridge.
The folk of Barton didnt disappoint! We had both town mayor, Chris Paterson, and Greater Lincolnshire mayor, Angela Jenkins, here and lots of people getting photos and handshakes throughout the morning.
Over the weekend we were also joined by the fantastic Angela Maxwell. Another world walker, Angela has walked the UK leg with Karl, along with various other legs throughout his journey.
But not one, not two but 3 world walkers were here as we had Tom Turcich here also 🌍
Werner Herzog, world renowned director, actor & producer was with us Saturday as he follows Karl documenting his journey for an upcoming documentary (he loved the fish & chips btw!)
The energy and aura around Karl this weekend has been infectious and its such an inspiring story. He's live in Hull next week on the 13th November with a first of a series of live shows where he'll tell his inspiring stories.
Thanks again for anyone who made it out on Sunday. Karl found the reception from Barton both overwhelming but fantastic! I walked the last couple of miles into Hull with Karl this morning and into a massive welcome home reception outside the city hall.
Its been a privilege to spend some time with him, such a well grounded and all round nice bloke. If he's at a loose end, we can give him some bar shifts over Christmas 🤣
