When I sharpen a chisel for fine woodwork it takes a lot longer. I use the stones until 5000 grit instead of the belts 600, I ensure the back is flat and polished (if required) and the main bevel is damn near perfectly square and flat.

The result is a level of precision I am proud of and a level of sharpness I am scared of.

Be VERY CAREFUL when buying Damascus tools. There is no such thing as cheap handmade Damascus and by cheap I mean I wouldn't trust anything less than around £100 per tool.

Getting a full set of Damascus tools on the internet for cheap can come with some potentially DEADLY consequences.

Depending on where you buy them, some have been known to test positive for LEAD!

I am under no illusion that if I wanted to make this a full time business, I would need to charge more. But it's not a full time business, it's a hobby that I want others to benefit from. So my prices cover the abrasives I use and the maintenance of the machines... That's it.

Yesterday I had someone come to me and ask me to sharpen their fancy new kitchen utensils that they bought for a "great deal" on marketplace...

After inspecting them... I had to let them know that their £600 set that they paid £200 for... Was fake and that they had been scammed...

If you are unsure at all on the quality of an item when it comes to things I sharpen, ASK ME! I will truthfully tell you if you are getting a bargain or not. Free of charge. Noone deserves to be scammed. Ever.

One of my main issues with sharpening is that I tend to strive for perfection.

As good as that sounds I end up working aspects that noone but me would really notice, also making it take much longer.

I see many professional sharpeners doing one knife per minute and all I think about is I could do that... If I didn't care as much... But I hate the thought of "not caring as much".

I want to impress everyone I sharpen for. I always want to get that "sharper than brand new" level and that is what I'll continue to do untill I just get faster with experience.

The Mrs used the kitchen scissors to cut wire....They are now sharp again.
