In February 2026, we began the refurbishment of The Portcullis with one goal: to create the best place to watch and play sport in Barnsley.

We asked the team to make the place look pretty. This is what happened 😂⛳️

🏗️ ANOTHER EXCITING STEP FORWARD AT PLAY OFF! 🎉

We’re delighted to announce that planning permission has been GRANTED for the next stage of our transformation.

This time, we’re turning our attention to the outside of the building, giving the front of the building a much-needed makeover!

The plans include:

New external rendering to give the building a fresh, modern look.

Contemporary cladding to completely transform the frontage.

A brand-new entranceway to create a welcoming new arrival at Play Off.

Work is set to begin in November.

We’ve already made huge progress inside, and we’re excited to now bring the outside of the building up to the same standard.

Our vision has always been to create something special for Barnsley, and this is another big step towards making that happen.

There’s still plenty more to come!

Watch this space! 👀
