Quiz update (now with extra sauce)…
We had 145 players this week, crammed into 30 teams. That’s not a quiz, that’s a small festival with worse lighting and better answers.
It was the last quiz for a while for Emily from “Where’s Emily”, who’s off to University in Glasgow. Good luck Emily. May your lectures be shorter than our picture round, may your student loan last longer than our chocolate prizes, and may you return in October still able to spell “Glasgow”. We’ll keep a seat warm. And possibly a pint.
There was a tie for fourth, so we wheeled out our amazing count-back system (patent pending, scientifically dubious, emotionally devastating). After much frowning at bits of paper, here are the results…
1st – Jacobs Crackers – £84(Clearly they’ve been saving the good biscuits.)
2nd – Tin Tin’s Haircut – £41(Still better than most of ours.)
3rd – E for Idiot – £20(Nominative determinism working overtime.)
4th – The Fact Hunters – the scratch card(They hunted. They facted. They nearly won cash. Close enough.)
Highest-scoring new team, winning chocolate: Chamber of Divvies.A strong debut. The name remains a warning and a promise.
Bottom place, also winning chocolate: Simple Minds.Don’t you forget about them. We won’t. The chocolate is both prize and consolation.
Chase the Joker is still intact. Next week it’s £500 with only 31 cards left. Someone is going to have a very good night or a very dramatic one. Possibly both.
Thanks everyone for yet another great night. Same time next week — bring your brains, your worst team names, and your optimism about that joker.
See you then. 😊
