The George at Burpham

The George at Burpham *A hidden Gem in the Countryside*
Dog friendly community pub which offers a modern & seasonal menu

British strawberry season is one of the sweetest parts of summer.

Sourced through Chef's Farms from Chichester, West Sussex, these strawberries are full of sweet, juicy flavour and are at their very best while they're in season.

At The George at Burpham, we're serving them with our Eton Mess – a simple dessert that lets this seasonal ingredient take centre stage.

We’ve loved welcoming so many walkers to The George recently 😊 hot, thirsty, happy to sit down, and very ready for a cold drink, a proper meal, and that lovely feeling of having earned it.

Our bar menu is just right for post-walk appetites, from haddock and chips, to our lighter bites like cheese and chutney or cheese and chorizo toasties, and our soft, gooey baked Camembert.

Burpham is surrounded by beautiful Sussex countryside, with riverside paths, Downs views and plenty of fresh air right on our doorstep. And if you’re looking for something guided, we recommend Wellness Walking Tours (https://wellnesswalkingtours.com/walks/)

Their Burpham walk starts and finishes in the village, making The George a lovely place to begin, end, or settle in afterwards with lunch, supper or a well-earned drink.

If you’re planning a walk, we recommend booking your table in advance, especially at weekends and on sunny days. Walk-ins are always welcome where we have space, and our outdoor tables are available on a first come, first served basis.

Great drinks deserve just as much care as great food.

That’s why we’re proud to serve Silly Moo Cider from Trenchmore Farm, made on their farm here in Sussex.

Hand-picked apples, pure juice, wild yeast, and a minimum-intervention approach come together in a cider that’s crisp, refreshing, and full of character. It’s traditional farmhouse cider, done with real care.

Perfect with a meal, or simply enjoyed on its own on a lovely summers day.

Ask us for a Silly Moo next time you’re in.

Just a quick note to let you know that on Thursday 23rd July we will unfortunately be closed for the day while essential maintenance works are carried out at the pub.

The nature of the work means it will be too disruptive for us to provide the standard of service we pride ourselves on, so we’ve made the decision to close for the day while the repairs are completed.

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and really appreciate your understanding and continued support. We look forward to welcoming you back as normal the following day.

Thank you,

The George at Burpham Team

Nutbourne Farm tomatoes are one of the highlights of summer.

Grown just down the road in Pulborough, West Sussex, they're known for their sweet, vine-ripened flavour and vibrant, zesty finish.

At The George at Burpham, you'll find them paired with our burrata dish and our roast cod, making the most of this seasonal ingredient while it's at its best.

Goodwood is one of our local suppliers, and Festival of Speed is just around the corner.

It’s on weekends like this that it’s much easier when the food part is sorted before you set off.

The George at Burpham is a lovely spot to build into your plans — whether you’re staying nearby, meeting friends before the weekend begins, popping in for a pre-event drink, or looking for a relaxed post-event meal once the engines have stopped revving.

Festival weeks get busy, so it’s worth booking ahead now and giving yourself one less thing to think about on the day (👉You can book a table via the link in our bio).

On the menu, you’ll find dishes and ingredients that bring our relationship with Goodwood to the table (a link to our latest menu is in our bio).

And behind the bar, we’ll serve a Goodwood Gin cocktail, and if you fancy something a little more celebratory, we have a lovely selection of local fizz available too.
