There is only one Jackie Morgan.
We will never forget him standing in the middle of Hughes Bar, somehow managing to take up half the bar between every table, always deep in conversation. Whether it was the latest GAA match, sport, current affairs, or the entertainment on TV, Jackie always had an opinion, an answer, and a story to tell.
Yet for all the hours he spent in the bar, he rarely took a seat (rarely I mean never) โ as Jackie would say, โHard men donโt sit.โ
With a half pint of Guinness, Bacardi and Coke in hand, he was a wealth of knowledge and a larger-than-life character who brought laughter, debate, and friendship wherever he stood.
Jackieโs legacy will never fade. As a family, and as the staff of Hughes Bar, we will never let him be forgotten. He was part of the fabric of this place, and without Jackie, Hughes Bar simply wonโt be the same.
In fact, as the man himself often reminded us, โWithout Jackie, there was no Hughes Bar.โ
Today we say goodbye to a true gentleman, a loyal friend, and one of lifeโs great characters.
Rest in eternal peace, Jackie. You will be missed by us all, but you will never be forgotten.
