Open Mic night at The Railway, Alton

Open Mic night at The Railway, Alton We are now running on the first Thursday of every month, live music, poetry, and more all abound :)

Tonight was quieter than we thought it was looking, strangely intimate, personal and not without that humble feeling, this space, these people, it's actually quite special, and that's quite a gratifying thing to hold....

It musically all started with Jude and myself as ever setting a bar of chaos, awkward, but as ever full of humour and expression. Then came ...

Sebastian ... a returning troubadour but not back for some time, the voice, the songs they blend all of what he does and it's truly impressive, there is this flow that pulls you in.
John ... Again, it's been a while and as ever delivering something eloquent, thoughtful, unexpected only of course, you never fall short.
George Partner .... What can I say, we have and still watch you grow, emerge, develop, become .. there is this lucid weave you do, please know, all jokes aside, you smashed it tonight young man ..
Dan Scholes ... You were poetic, then Adam and you did this almost awkward comedic, unscripted, it was bounce in the moment, it was based on a mutual thought some of us need to find the comedic self in a safe non judgemental space, so why not do so here ... I think we both cut some teeth tonight.
Bryn ... Back again after a brief respite, and as shining as ever .. thanks, epic :)

I did announce tonight, but for clarity ... Our 100th open mic night is an agreed event, a milestone, a reason to gather, and for music, expression and more. It is on Saturday 6th of February 2027 and due to a certain pandemic, it's the 100th time we also gather here @ The Railway Arms, and as well, it is 10 years, yes a decade, since the first open mic we created in February 2017 ... Sometimes things are not of your making, they simply align.

Stay blessed, stay well, and know all of you, are also a part of this special, more is to come.

with grace ...

Well that was a great night, I wasn't at my best ( Adam writing here ) both my back and aged eardrums said so, but it was truly one of those wonderful nights of musical, escalating brilliant that reminds oneself of why we do this. The very energy of the room went from slightly trepidus to actually, rather brilliant, so much was the duality of performers, music, words, energy from both audience and those who gave us their all. Not sure I can name all but I will try to and say thanks, apologies if I missed someone

We return in September, on the 4th, and that will be for the 95th time, as summer fades, we continue to do as we do, offer a space where people can artistically connect, live a freedom of expression, and build upon their art in a positive way ... and of course be a part of a non judgemental space, the duality of the gift is a wonderful thing, thanks to all who came and what a brilliant audience you all were, so many smiles and sing along's :) stay blessed in the knowing :)

Well tonight was nothing less than a bit quiet, but a lovely intimate affair of note one would say. It was the 93rd time we have run one of these events @ The Railway Arms and as much as the football, the tennis, the weather that can punish a working day and/or commute there was a very personal thing in every performance, so a point of note :)

Thanks to those who stepped up and gave something, there was....

Jude and myself
The Lurxx
George Partner
Graham the ever eloquent poet
Sammy
Becky Brown
Bryn
The Woodsmen

You all did something, shared and gave something special, it's not always about the audience, the numbers there, it is sometimes more about what you all bring into a room, and how you all hold the flame. We are privileged, you lot were and are epic, we are the lucky ones, it counts, you count, never let go of the knowing it's very real as is what we share, we are all blessed thankyou 🙏

What can I say, or even start with, it all began slowly, a bit later in truth, but it became as it does, often, in it's own exquisite way, undetermined, not of our making...

following an early start involving The Lurxx with George doing an opening number,
Jude and I did as we do, the rest fell into place, the evening became.. and in no particular order...
Brian gave us his Tolklien influences, musically infused spaces.
Nick returned, and did a lovely little set.
Peter Whitmore, sublime, very soothing stuff, thanks
Lex ... A new face in the room, a new voice, Wow, Just Wow
Bryn .. Finally back and utterly brilliant, you shine :)
Jenny and Ian, well really, it has always been you both, this wonderful constant one can never deny
The Lurxx ... power, passion, heart sleeve and respect all there, thanks we all need some.

We return on the second of July, more of the more will be,

blessings.
