One of Suffolk’s most celebrated cultural events returns this summer as the Aldeburgh Festival takes place from Friday 12th– Sunday 28th June 2026 at Snape Maltings and venues across the Suffolk coast.

This year’s festival holds special significance, marking 50 years since the death of Aldeburgh’s founder, Benjamin Britten, while celebrating the extraordinary legacy he and Peter Pears created through their commitment to music, creativity, and nurturing young talent.

Featured Artist Ryan Wigglesworth will join an outstanding line-up of internationally acclaimed musicians and emerging performers for a programme spanning opera, orchestral music, chamber performances, new commissions, exhibitions, and much more.

A particular highlight will be the return of the much-loved Big Day Out on Saturday 13th June, bringing the festival spirit back into the heart of Aldeburgh where it all began. The town will come alive with family-friendly activities, musical surprises, and creative experiences around every corner.

Free activities at the Jubilee Hall Aldeburgh will include singing and dance workshops for children of all ages, although some events require advance online booking due to limited capacity. And have you spotted the festival flags appearing around town yet? They’re already helping bring a wonderful sense of excitement and celebration to Aldeburgh ahead of the big event!

Founded in 1948, the Aldeburgh Festival continues to attract audiences from around the world while remaining deeply connected to the Suffolk coast and local community — making it one of the UK’s most unique and inspiring cultural celebrations.

Look to the skies this June, as the world-famous Royal Air Force Red Arrows could once again be visible from parts of the Suffolk coast during rehearsals and flypasts connected to the King's Birthday celebrations!

While exact viewing locations and weather conditions will determine what can be seen, aviation enthusiasts in Aldeburgh, Thorpeness, Leiston, and across the Suffolk coast may be lucky enough to catch sight of the aircraft as they travel over or near East Anglia ahead of the King's Birthday Flypast. The official flypast over Buckingham Palace takes place on Saturday 14th June, (due to fly over this area approximately between 12.30pm and 1.25pm), with rehearsal flights taking place beforehand.

The Red Arrows are expected to pass through East Anglian airspace during their route to London, with flight information showing aircraft travelling near the Suffolk coast and the Woodbridge area before heading south towards the capital. Timings and routes can change depending on weather and operational requirements.

For those hoping to catch a glimpse, a stroll along Aldeburgh beach, the seafront, Thorpeness, or other open coastal locations could provide excellent viewpoints if conditions are favourable. As always, keep an eye on local aviation updates closer to the day.

If you do spot them over the Suffolk coast, don't forget to share your photos!
